“I Just Read Katherine Legge‘s Doing It!” Bubba Wallace Spill the Beans on His Indy 500-Coke 600 Plans

The Double conversation is back in the NASCAR, after it was announced that Katherine Legge is gearing up to become the first female racer to attempt it this season. It’s the dream of many stock car racing drivers to attempt to race Indy 500 and Coke 600 the same day, but not for 23XI Racing’s star driver Bubba Wallace.

He was asked about the British drivers dream move ahead of the Dover All-Star race and if he wishes to attempt it one, considering he has the billionaire team owner Michael Joradn backing him. The veteran admitted that though it would an amazing experience, he has no plans to do it as he doesn’t have enough time to invest into the preparations.

No, nope. I think it’s bada**… The reason I say no is because there’s so much time and effort that goes into that and, right now, I don’t have enough time to think about that, to think about how much I have to do to prep for that.

Bubba Wallace told the media at Dover.

He already has so much responsibility at 23XI Racing and if he wants to attempt that double, he would be forced to make sacrifices that would ruin his performance in the Cup. Bubba Wallace doesn’t want to invest a full season into prepping for one race, where even the best racer of his generation, Kyle Larson, couldn’t make a difference.  

I don’t want to be the one to just make a phone call like, ‘Hey, I want to do this next year.’ I feel like that’s years of prep. I don’t have that time right now. I’ll just go run my one race and be good

Bubba Wallace added.

Earlier he also talked about Legge making history and admitted that he is really excited about the veteran female racer. He will cheer for the UK racer to succeed alongside his closer friend from IndyCar, Scott McLaughlin who will also race for the win.

I just read Katherine Legge‘s doing it — super pumped for her. She’s been awesome in learning her way in this sport. To see her announce the Double is freaking cool, so definitely cheering for her and hopefully that goes well.

Chase Elliott shares similar thought as Bubba Wallace on the double

Hendrick Motorsport star Chase Elliott was asked the same question and he admitted that he doesn’t wish to attempt double as he has seen first with Kyle Larson about how demanding the schedule is. The 2020 champion also cheered for Legge and shared his hope that fortune might favor the female racer unlike in the case of Larson.

I’ve never had a ton of interest. I certainly have a lot of respect and wish her a lot of luck. I know it takes a lot of effort. Just watching what Kyle went through the last couple years and everything, I think it’s a huge commitment, one where you have to have a lot of good fortune go your way with the weather. So, hopefully all that works out for her.

The comments from the veteran racer shows the two times champion Kyle Larson’s failure to perform on the big stage has made many drivers rethink their double dreams. It would be interesting to see if Legge can change that feeling in the garage.
