The NASCAR Cup Series race last Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway witnessed a chaotic moment involved Carson Hocevar and Ryan Blaney. The Spire Motorsports driver spun out the No:12 Ford Mustang driver after an aggressive block and their confrontation post-race turned into a fist fight.
Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. shared his thoughts on the drama in the latest episode of his Dale Jr. Download podcast. The veteran highlighted how the No:77 Chevy didn’t have to cut the veteran a break and let him make the aggressive defence.
He ****** up and [wrecked Blaney]. He could have cut him a break. He doesn’t have to cut him a break, though. He gets the run. He makes the move. He’s a race car driver.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. said on his podcast.
But giving the 2023 champion a break would’ve been the smart thing to do for Carson Hocevar. The race winner Joey Logano have Christopher Bell a break in a similar situation in the race. But that doesn’t mean the youngster is to be blamed for the Ryan Blaney wreck.
He’s racing now. Is it smarter? Is it smarter to ****** do what Joey did? Yeah. Joey won the race. That was a great, smart move by Joey not to ****** wreck the 20. And he goes on and wins the race. But Hocevar had a run, goes to the inside, the 12 blocks. It spun him out. He ******* drove over the right front of the 77.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. added via Dale Jr. Download.
The likes of Logano and Brad Keselowski have been through the similar aggressive phase in their career as Hocevar, but the matured and now races more wisely, earning them more wins. The youngster needs to do the same if he has to sustain him aggressive racing career.
Brad Keselowski did the same thing at the start of his career. So, did I. So did a lot of them. And I mean, he’s going to have to learn. He can’t sustain this activity throughout his career. He can’t and he won’t. He’ll grow up and mature and make different choices as he gets older.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. asserted.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. explains Carson Hocevar’s driver code
In the same podcast, the Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. highlighted how Hocevar is a driver that would have never stood out from the rest in the seventies or eighties unlike now, as majority of the driver were like him back then and the whole dynamic was different. He also highlighted how the driver code of the youngster doesn’t suit the current era.

Hocevar would not be that wild an anomaly if you threw him into the seventies or eighties. Now, he’d get his ass kicked by a couple of these guys, and they’d get after him, but he sticks out like a sore thumb in this group of guys, because everybody in this sport otherwise has a code that they all race by that’s really similar. And he doesn’t really go by that code. Not that his code is wrong. It’s just, he doesn’t go by it. It’s different.
Carson Hocevar said.
The comments from the Hall of Famer are on point and the advice he shared is something Hocevar needs to take into his heart. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the coming days, with more controversies awaiting him in the future.
