The NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday at Sonoma Raceway saw Trackhouse Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen securing another dominant win, third of the 2025 season. At the same time his teammates Daniel Suarez and Ross Chastain was having a different race. They were taking each other out in the midfield pack.
During the race, on Turn 11 where drivers often get under each other skin by bumping the cars ahead of them, trying to overtake them via the inside lane. Ross Chastain attempted to do the same on his teammate Daniel Suarez who was on the bumper of Joey Logano looking to make a similar move.
The No:1 Chevy made contact with the No:99 Chevy and spun it out. Daniel Saurez was furious as he was having a good race till that incident and on his team radio, sent a warning to veteran racer that he will be having revenge soon. The fact that Saurez is now racing for himself, more selfish than he has ever been, is more evident at the moment, as he is leaving the team at the end of 2025 season.
Better hope I don’t get to him today.

Ross Chastain’s crew tried to intently solve the beef with Daniel Suarez
Watching the replay it’s clear that Chastain didn’t mean to spin him out his teammate and was attempting a mild nudge to make a move. Though he is infamous for aggressive racing, he isn’t a driver that’s going make such poor moves on his own teammate, who has driver besides him for almost half a decade.

Brandon McReynolds, the No:1 Chevy Team’s spotter, was quick to make an attempt cool thing between the teammates as his instructions also played a big part in the incident. He came down to the No:99 team pit-box, apologized to Suarez and his crew chief, asserting they had no intention to cause a clash.
[McReynolds] came down here and said he apologized. Had no intention to get in there that deep, but couldn’t get it stopped.
Daniel Saurez was told on radio by his team.
The Mexican-American racer was shared this message via the team radio and he showed his frustration by keeping quiet, not responding to the apology. This confirmed, he wasn’t ready to calm down and let his teammate’s mistake slide.
After securing a good P14 finish, surviving the chaos, Daniel Suarez shared his thoughts on the run-in with the media. He admitted that he expects to have a conversation with his teammate ahead of the upcoming weekend regarding the drama and if things are not resolved, payback is coming Ross Chastain’s way.
I hope so… And if it doesn’t happen, he’s gonna get it back.
Daniel Suarez told the media post-race.
The comments from the veteran hints there are some tensions in the Trackhouse Racing garage with just 16 more races left in the season before the eventual exit of Suarez. If they have a public beef over this minor incident, in the coming race weeks they will find it hard to function as a team with playoffs progression on the line.
