Ex-teammates having public beef is nothing new in NASCAR. The latest addition to the list is the duo of Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin. It all started with the Joe Gibbs Racing veteran criticising the Richard Childress Racing driver over his poor form, as he completed 100 races without a win in the elite division.
But the comments didn’t sit well with the two times Cup champion and ahead of the Kansas Cup race called out his 44-year-old ex-teammate. He pointed out that that the 23XI Racing co-owner is clueless about his team’s struggles, welcomed him to switch cars and prove himself wrong. The veteran also threatened to the No:11 drivers life hell on the track.
If Denny wants to switch cars, I’ll switch cars with him. Any day of the week, any time. I’d love for him to show me that he can carry it better than I can…In this instance, I don’t know that Denny Hamlin even knows what the hell he’s talking about. He can bash me all he wants. I can certainly make his life hell.
Kyle Busch told the media at Kansas.
The video of the Kyle Busch interview quickly made its way to Denny Hamlin, and the veteran was quick to come out with a witty response on X. He pointed out that he was doing what he was supposed to do as a podcaster answering serious questions and is dumbfounded over what he said made the ex-champion uncomfortable.
Not really sure what I’m supposed to do. I host a podcast and I have to answer questions about relevant topics. Should I just say I dunno, everything seems fine to me? Not sure where he felt I ‘bashed.’ I’m walking a damn tight rope here.

Denny Hamlin has no hopes over Kyle Busch getting back to victory lane
The comment that irked Busch from Hamin might be what he said about the potential of the No:8 team winning again with the current car. He declared that the Rowdy Nation would be beyond disappointed if they expect the RCR car to be in the victory lane without massive changed done to the cars.

If you’re expecting Kyle Busch to just go back to victory lane on a regular basis, you’re kidding yourselves and you’re going to be very disappointed. I just think that until we change cars or something changes; something has to change, I don’t know what… I’m just a podcaster that happens to be on the racetrack around him, and I can just say that it’s just not working.
Denny Hamlin said on his podcast.
The comments from the Joe Gibbs Racing driver are on point and are rational. The 40-year-old Busch isn’t the same driver he once was and he hasn’t cracked the code to win races with the Next-Gen era car. Though RCR is predominantly to blame for the performance drop, the driver also deserved to be called out.
