The NASCAR Cup Series season opener has always been known for its chaos and mega wrecks. Hendrick Motorsports William Byron became the first racer since Denny Hamlin to secure back-to-back to race wins, surviving all the massive wrecks. The defending champion Joey Logano was one of the victims of wrecks on Sunday.

With just 20 laps left in the race, Joey Logano who earlier had some mechanical issues, found himself in the front-five alongside teammate Ryan Blaney, with his other teammate Austin Cindric led the race. The No:22 tried to overtake Ricky Stenhouse Jr. who was on the outside, with the No:12 Ford on the inside creating a semi-three-way battle.

The No:47 Chevy pulled some huge blocks, and this resulted in Joey Logano losing control of his car, making contact with Blaney, with both the cars slamming into the wall. The incident went onto collect the likes of former Cup Series champion Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott. The No:4 Ford of Noah Gragson was also involved in the wreck.

Ryan Blaney was able survive the chaos, and finish P7, the best among the drivers who were caught up in the wreck. Chase Elliott score P15, while the champion racers like Kyle Busch and Joey Logano DNFed from the race. Legacy MC’s Jimmie Johnson used all the chaos to his advantage and secured a strong P3 finish, his best result with the team he co-owns.

Yeah, from my vantage point, I felt like I had to get to the second car in line to have a chance to win the thing, and I had an opportunity to get down in front of the four there, and then the 47 kind of had a late block there, and then at this point, like, it was kind of indecisive, and I was trying to back out of it at this point. I couldn’t. I was getting shoved into it at that point because the checkup already happened.

Joey Logano said.

The comments from Joey Logano proves he just made some bad decision, and it caused driver serious opportunities to win the race. It would be interesting to see how the No:22 Ford driver will get over the disappointment from the poor start to his season.
