Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin bagged his maiden NASCAR championship in 2024 season. His driver Tyler Reddick of 23XI Racing won the regular season championship with a one-point lead of Hendrick Motorsports’ Reddick. Now Hamlin would line-up giants his drivers in the fight for the championship.
Ex-NASCAR Cup champion Kevin Harvick sees a huge upside in Denny Hamlin being crowned as team owner. He believes this would act as motivation for the veteran driver to get back to the same form he has been at the start of the season and get into a championship winning form, that would yield him his maiden Cup title.
I think when Denny looks at the way that they run this year, the way that they ran at Phoenix, he’s got to know he’s running out of shots. When he sees that regular-season trophy in the shop of 23XI, I just got to believe there’s some sort of motivation there.Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.
The ex-SHR driver also explained how having Chris Gabehart as the No:11 team crew chief will benefit his championship chase. He asserted that the experience the duo have together is a huge upside for them in the journey.
I think when he and [Chris] Gabehart look at all the things they have accomplished and been together and can do, I think that that experience of being able to have been there before, I just think that eventually it’s got to happen.Kevin Harvick added.
Kevin Harvick predicts a wildcard win on R-16 opener
The Cup playoff will be open with the race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and it will be wild race as it’s a plate race. While talking about the race, Kevin Harvick made a prediction about who would potentially win. He expects a wildcard win in the race and expects a race much different from Talladega or Daytona, as the race will start on afternoon.
The points have been like this, but they haven’t ever gone to Atlanta at three o’clock in the afternoon, where it’s going to be 80 degrees and you’re going to be superspeedway racing, knowing that you’ve got to hold that thing down, that pedal down, as much as you can, to go fast. I think we’re going to see a wildcard race like we haven’t seen before. This is not your Talladega or Daytona that we’re going to.Kevin Harvick said.
The ex-champion does have a point about a upset win happening on next-Sunday, as the plate races gives everyone a shot at winning the race. It would be interesting to see who will win the potentially wild race at Atlanta.
