The 2024 NASCAR regular season was marked by the battle among Toyota’s Joe Gibbs Racing and Chevy’s Hendrick Motorsports. Both of the teams were able to secure post-season entry for all four of their drivers. But JGR lost two of their drivers in R-16 while all HMS driver survived to seen another round.
But going into the second round, according to ex-Cup champion Kevin Harvick, two HMS drivers will get eliminated and the parity will be restored. The ex-SHR driver made this prediction during the recent Happy Hour podcast and named four drivers who would not make it beyond the second round of the playoffs.

He doesn’t see Trackhosue Racing’s Daniel Suarez, Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron, Stewart Haas Racing’s Chase Briscoe and Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott making it into R-12. He pointed out that though these drivers were decent in the Bristol playoff race, they haven’t been race win contenders.
For me it’s the 99, the 24, the 14 and the 9. You know, I put the 9 in there. They did good at Bristol; I just think that you’re gonna have to make some noise and you’re gonna have to show that you’re a contender leading laps and running up front as you get closer to the Round of 8 and the Round of 4.Kevin Harvick said via Happy Hour podcast.
Kevin Harvick explains reasoning for his argument
The ex-RCR driver went onto explains why he chose the four drivers, who are not the worst performers of the last-12, to get eliminated. He pointed out that they haven’t showed any promises like Kyle Larson and were just hanging on to places at Bristol, without taking any valuable risks.
They’ve run OK. They’ve been decent. But they just haven’t shown that they have what the 5 [Kyle Larson] has to be able to do it. Bristol wound up being a pretty good day for them because they just hung out and qualified well and put themselves in a position to have a decent day to get through the first round.Kevin Harvick said.
While there are a lot of arguments to be made to support prediction about Suarez and Briscoe, defending the HMS duo prediction is hard. They would most probably have the best cars in the coming races and are experienced enough to survive the playoffs. It will be interesting to see if the predictions become right.
