The 2025 NASCAR Cup season had the chaotic start everyone in the racing community expected at the Daytona 500. The last fern laps of the race as usual produced some big wrecks, and one of the most significant one of them was the incident that collected three former Cup champions in Chase Elliott, Kyle Busch and the perpetrator Joey Logano.

With just 20 laps left in the race, Joey Logano who was racing Ricky Stenhouse Jr. with his teammate Ryan Blaney besides him, tried to sneak his way between the two. Stenhouse Jr. blocked the No:22 Ford by coming down the lane, but it was little too late as the Team Penske driver was already too invested. This resulted in the trio spinning out.

The Penske dup slammed hard into the wall and proceeded to collect the likes of Noah Gragson, Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott, who were racing behind them. The RCR veteran was furious with Logano over the decision making and called him out for hurrying to get to the wreck, considering if he had patient the car was fast enough to eventually get upfront.

Looks like the fastest car got in a hurry to get to the wreck. Logano was by far the fastest car today. Saw a lot of laps led and he could about do anything. The Penske cars were very strong. We still got 20 laps to go and he’s trying to go through the middle and make a hole that isn’t there. Just created chaos.

Joey Logano explained what caused the incident

In his post-race interview Joey Logano recalled what went wrong during the race and explained how he caused the mess. He pointed out that he thought he got caught in the situation after the No:47 Chevy blocked him move to go upfront and things went south after that.

So, yeah, just racing there at the end. It seems like it’s just, I don’t know, I felt like I can get my nose in there. I was going to, and then he just wanted to block it, and I couldn’t get out. Once you’re already checked up, it brings the whole back of the pack up to you. So, unfortunate for the old Shell Pencil Mustang.

The comments from Joey Logano, he understands it was his mistake that led to the incident. But he isn’t ready let it wear him down and is determined to use the momentum he had with the fast cars at Daytona to produce a solid title defense.
