Kyle Larson had one of his best race weekends of the season at Watkins Glen as the No:5 Hendrick Motorsports Camaro ZL1 driver secured race wins in both the NASCAR cup and Xfinity series. The defending cup champion was on double duty at Glen, and he won both races by chasing down the leaders in the final laps.

Surprisingly in both of those races, NASCAR veteran AJ Allmendinger finished as the second best on the track, in his No:16 Koulig cup and Xfinity cars respectively. The Xfinity Series P2 was kind of a gift to the veteran as he took advantage of the mistake commited by the front runner William Byron. At the same time, in the cup race, he did the same as he overtook Chase Elliott, who was outmuscled by Larson in the final restarts.

The P2 finish in the Glen cup race was something AJ had to fight to earn as he had to come back from an early race spin to get to the top. AJ Allmendinger, who already had a win in the New York track, couldn’t catch up with the champion as he was much quicker in the HMS ride. But AJ will have a chance to get a win in the Daytona Road Course race next weekend.

AJ Allmendinger acknowledged that finishing second sucks without a doubt, but when it is Kyle Larson ahead of you, it is tough to finish even in second to him. He went on to explain his answer by pointing out that he always acknowledged Kyle Larson as ‘the most badass driver on the planet right now’ and added that he could win races in any car you put him in.

Finishing second sucks; let’s get that straight. But when it’s to Kyle Larson, I’ve said it once; I’ve said it a thousand times — he’s the most badass driver on the planet right now. I don’t care what you put him in. He can go win, and he pretty much shows it every day, actually. It’s tough to finish second to him, but we were there,” AJ Allmendinger said.

Talking about his race weekend, AJ Allmendinger acknowledged that he earned the cup race p2 while he was lucky to get P2 in the Xfinity series. He went on talk about his early spin, after contact with Austin Cindric that took him out, suggesting both drivers were pretty equal racing, and the incident could even have been avoided if he had gotten in front of the Penske driver.

“(Saturday), we kind of got gifted a second place. Today, we earned it. Honestly, I think it was the same deal. If I could’ve got in front of him, I don’t know if he passed me. We were pretty equal. It was just on different parts of the race track,” AJ Allmendinger added.
