Kyle Larson

Kyle Larson is no longer defending his 2021 cup title. The No:5 Camaro ZL1 driver was eliminated from the playoff after failing to score the desired finish. Christopher Bell’s impressive win on the track also prompted exit for Larson who entered the race positioned above the cutline.

Kyle Larson will be accompanied by teammate Alex Bowman, Daniel Suarez, and Austin Cindric in the exit. In Larson’s words, it was “Just a dumb mistake,” on his part that cost him the chance to progress to the round of 8 and probably the championship 4 race.

Kyle Larson hit the wall with just 12 laps remaining in the race at turn 7. The impact broke the right rear toe link of his No:5 Camaro ZL1. Larson still just had to finish the race to progress, so his crew Cliff Daniels ordered the team to fix the car.

The defending champion was multiple laps off the leaders when he re-entered the race. He had no control over his playoff destiny after it. Bell’s race-in and the potential race manipulation by SHR in the final laps were enough to eliminate Laron from the playoffs.
