The 2024 NASCAR Cup series season hosted an entertaining race at Atlanta Motor Speedway that saw Trackhouse Racing’s Daniel Suarez win the race with a 0.003 seconds lead over his rivals in a three-car photoshoot finish. Ryan Blaney secured the P2 finish ahead of Kyle Busch of Richard Childress Racing.
The last five laps of the race put fans on the edge of their seat as it was just pure racing on play with no late-race chaos. At the start of the last lap, Blaney was in the lead while Suarez and Busch were playing catch-up. Busch squeezing his way to the middle lane while Suarez lined up alongside him on the outside lane made it a three-way battle after corner three.

Saurez edged the No:12 Ford of Team Penske by 0.003 seconds on his way to win. While Kyle Busch who finished P3 in the race, was 0.007 seconds behind the Mexican. It was the third-closest finish ever in the sport’s history. The 2011 Talladega race and the 2003 Darlington race featured the closest finishes ever in the sport’s history with a 0.002-second margin.
The 2024 Atlanta race will go down in history as one of the best finishes ever in the sport. It is a testament to how impressive was the decision to repave and reconfigure the AMS from a normal short track to a semi-superspeedway. Last year as well Atlanta hosted arguably the best race of the season and the 2024 edition seems to have hit the sweet spot as well.
Here is how fans reacted to the photo-finish
NASCAR fans on social media were overjoyed with the win and while discussing the race on X, some took shots at Formula One fans. Over the last few seasons, NASCAR’s counterpart in the open-wheel racing scene has seen the absolute dominance of Max Verstappen, with the Dutch racer securing wins with massive margins.

They were also taking shots at each other over the lack of competitiveness in the Formula One grid compared to NASCAR where every stage features more passes and race-defining moments than what happens in F1 over a whole race.

It would be difficult to race like that in an open wheel car with carbon everywhere.

No, we like to watch the same person win 19 out of 22 races in a season

My favorite part of your real racing is when you stop the whole race and stick everybody back together again to generate more action.
