23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace has come forth, calling out the hypocrisy of a potion NASCAR fans on issues surrounding him. The sole black athlete of the premier stock car racing championship has been a headline maker since his debut. While some criticism of the driver is warranted, most often, it’s not.
The recent controversy he has found Himself in is associated with him showing the middle figure on live TV. It produced a mixed set of emotions among the racing fans. Showing the birdie isn’t a new practice in NASCAR; some of the sport’s legendary names have done it more publicly than the No:23 Car driver of Michael Jordan’s Cup team.
After the Sonoma Cup that saw him finishing the P17, he opened up about the public’s selective outrage and claimed his disgust with such reactions. He defended himself, saying that shooting the bird isn’t a new thing in NASCAR, and said it is an issue because it was done by him. He added that he hates being the headline for one reason on another every week.
“People think that I love to stay in the headlines for different reasons and I actually hate it. The finger’s become such a big thing when Bubba Wallace does it. But you have guys that get wrecked and they walk on the track and shoot one bird or shoot the double-bird and we laugh about it and move on. We tell them that they’re No. 1,” Wallace said.
“But when Bubba Wallace does it we gotta shut the whole state down, shut the whole series down, kick him out, suspend him. So, on that side of things, it’s complete BS. But, it is what it is. It’s been going on for years and it sounds like I just invented something new. And we know how some of these people that are part of this sport hate when Bubba Wallace brings in something new,” Wallace added.

The Birdie drama didn’t wasn’t just a social media issue. It stirred problems on track as well. Stewart Haas Racing’s Aric Almirola had a heated confrontation, which ended in shoving the 23XI driver during Coco-Cola 600.
The veteran driver later pointed out that he confronted Wallace because he showed him the middle figure during the race. “He started mouthing off, saying a lot of bad things and cussing at me after he shot me the bird. I just told him I wasn’t going to take that,” Almirola said about the incident.
Bubba Wallace, in response to the incident, said that Almirola is two-faced and is making issues for the sake of it. During the times, their rival, Corey Lajoie, revealed that he and Wallace often show each other the middle figure while racing, and it’s part of the fun they have on the track.
