Spire Motorsports is ready to finalize a multiyear contract extension with their star driver Corey LaJoie as the 2023 Regular season is coming to an end. The Stalking Pennie’s podcast host has been one of the most impressive drivers of the 2023 season as he has been able to punch above his weight to secure exceptional finishes in Car with a very limited pace.
Now according to the latest reports from The Athletic, the Chevy driver is all set to continue being the surprise package every weekend with a new contract extension. The deal is expected to be finalized within the next few weeks, and an announcement will follow. The team and driver will be hoping to grow together and become race-win contenders.
LaJoie had the best start to a Cup season in 2023 and has outperformed experienced drivers in superior machinery. From 19 races, he has secured 11 top-20 finishes, including an impressive P4 in the Atlanta March race. He even drove Chase Elliott’s No:9 Chevy in Gateway, filling in for the former due to a one-race suspension.
The 31-year-old driver has outperformed his teammate Ty Dillon by a mile. Dillon has so far scored just two top 20s compared to Lejoie’s 11. The No:7 team hasn’t encountered a single DNF this year, while the No:77 had multiple DNFs. Lejoie has outperformed top team drivers such as SHR’s Chase Briscoe, Aric Almirola, and Ryan Preece, along with RCR’s Austin Dillon and Team Penske’s Austin Cindric.

Corey LaJoie is only focused on performing in 2023
The driver was asked about his plans for the 2023 season ahead of last Sunday’s Cup race in Atlanta which he finished at P31. He pointed out that he is focused on putting in the hard work and producing the best result every week, and if he can attain that objective, the future will sort itself out.
“I got a hard enough time looking at what I’m eating for dinner, let alone next year. You know if you perform well this week and translate that to next week and continue to build upon what we’re doing and what we’re growing as a team, the future stuff will take care of itself,” LaJoie said Saturday in Atlanta.
While securing a win in a normal track is too much to ask from Spire, considering the limited resources they have, they have an opportunity to make it to the playoff. It’s the second regular season race at Daytona, Coke Zero Sugar 400. The superspeedway is all about uncertainty and chaos, and if they can survive it, the playoff won’t be just a dream.
