The NASCAR Cup series is among the most challenging Motorsport championship in the world. The drivers competing in the event are among the world’s best in the discipline. It’s also one of the most demanding motorsports events, demanding more than just driving prowess from the competitors. Cup driver Corey LaJoie has given insight into this tough situation.
The financial system of NASCAR has evolved into an institution heavily dependent on sponsorship money. This puts huge pressure on the drivers as they are now tasked with bringing money to the table along with their skills. The elite drivers can survive based on their skills as they will naturally attract sponsors when they win, while the midfield drivers need to work extra to get the backing.
Corey LaJoie has been one of these midfield maestros all his life, and while talking about the tough task, he has compared NASCAR’s most popular driver, Chase Elliott. He said Elliott missed seven races this season because injury and suspension didn’t cost him more than championship points. LaJoie said if he sat out, he wouldn’t have had a seat to make a return.
“I think it’s very situational too. Chase Elliott can go snowboarding and break his leg and come back to his seat in 6 weeks with no problem. I don’t know if I’ll have a seat in 6 weeks. My situation isn’t as concrete and set up as the most popular driver,” LaJoie said.

Two NASCAR champions have recently revealed that NASCAR has become a money game
Only active multiple Cup champions in the grid, Kyle Busch and Joey Logano, have revealed that NASCAR has become a money game, and skill alone won’t cut it anymore. The revelation came when the teams were demanding a restricting profit-sharing system in place right now.
While talking about his former driver Zane Smith making it into the Cup series, Busch said that, even with all his talents, if he can bring in $6 Million to the table, he can drive for JGR in the 2024 season.
On a recent podcast appearance with former NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace, Joey Logano revealed that he has to pay to drive a Truck Series race this season. He then asked the million-dollar question describing the broken system, how hard will it be for a nobody to race in NASCAR if a two times Cup and former Xfinity champion has to pay for it?
