Former NASCAR and IndyCar star driver Danica Patrick has found herself on hot waters after her response to Martin Truex Jr.’s statement on his ex-girlfriend’s death. Sherry Pollex, a longtime partner of the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series champion, died after her nine-year-long courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
The news shocked the entire NASCAR community as she was one of the most beloved personalities. Her fight with cancer and her philanthropy work made her one of the most respected personals in the grid. She has been leading Martin Truex Jr. Foundations’ initiatives to help cancer patients in need over the years. The “catwalk for cause” is their most renowned initiative.
The JGR driver broke up with his longtime partner at the start of this year, and it was a shocking announcement. Hours after the family confirmed the sad news about Sherry Pollex, Truex Jr. released a statement extending his condolences to the family and claimed that her legacy will “live beyond our lifetime.”
But Danica Patrick seems to be impressed by the TRD driver’s statement, and she, via her now-deleted Instagram story, had some strong criticism towards him. She pointed out that the student was insensitive, and it was written by a PR representative and not by Joe Gibbs’s No:19 Toyota Camry driver.
“I avoid negativity on social media at almost all costs. Almost…But this is the most insensitive, disconnected statement from a guy that I have never liked. And obviously, for a good reason. I don’t care what happened between them, but this is as cold as it gets. A PR rep wrote this guaranteed. You are free from this now, Sherry,” she wrote on her Instagram story (H&T: Yardbreaker)

Danica Patrick faces online backlash
Patrick isn’t the most favorite driver in the NASCAR community for many reasons, while Martin Truex Jr. and Sherry Pollex are among the most beloved. So, there wasn’t a single reason for fans not to unleash backlash online against the former driver.
Some fans went beyond the limit, and their posts on X (previously Twitter) turned to abuse, while others had genuine criticism. There were even fans who were disappointed by the timing and language used in the story.
