Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin has explained the difference in the level of satisfaction from Cup regular season wins and playoff wins. Hamlin secured his 13th career playoff race win last week at Bristol and has established himself as one of the most in-form drivers going into the second round of the postseason.
While discussing the difference between Cup race wins in the regular season and post-season, he pointed out that the victories in the last ten races of the year are more satisfactory. He based his argument on the fact that every team is more focused and comes with the best resources to succeed during the period.
“But it is different. Winning in the playoffs is different because you know that everyone, all the drivers, are as focused as they’ve ever been. The teams are bringing the best. They’re putting as much time as they’ve ever put in all season long, and when you can get the best of them, you know you did your job that week.” Denny Hamlin said, as reported by RACER.
Hamlin has been the best driver in the Round of 16. He was a genuine contender to win all three races, and if not for bad luck, he would have won the first two races. At Darlington, he suffered a right-rear tire failure. At Kansas, he fell victim to a safety car call that came while he was leading the race. Hamlin averaged a 9.3 finish and led 382 laps in the three events.
Denny Hamlin believes that he can end his title drought in 2023
Once Kevin Harvick retires at the end of this season, Hamlin will become the oldest driver in the Cup garage. The 42-year-old, despite driving some of the fastest cars for Joe Gibbs Racing for over one and a half decades, hasn’t won the ultimate price once. The three-time Daytona 500 winner came close to the multiple times

Hamlin, who has won three aces so far this season and has been consistent the whole year, is confident that 2023 is finally his year to win the championship that has been eluding him over the years. He is confident that his team can deliver him a title this season.
“Certainly, this year is different. I told you guys before the playoffs started; this year just feels different with the capabilities of our team and the speed we’re showing,” Hamlin said.
