Defending NASCAR Cup series champion Joey Logano didn’t mince his words when asked about the progress in the safety of drivers in the Next-Gen car era. The No:22 Team, Penske Racing driver, called out the sanctioning body for being too slow when addressing drivers’ concerns. Logano is leading the way to inspire his Cup compatriots to speak out.

One of the biggest promises about the Next-Gen cars was safety for the drivers. It has played a significant role in keeping drivers safe, but with the field being so close, the characteristics of accidents have changed. This calls for specific updates to the car, which the regulating body has been bringing in step by step.

But according to the Two Times Cup champion, the process has been slow, and it’s taking the tl on drivers. He said ahead of Chicago Cup race, “There’s no doubt last year the back of the cars were too stiff. We made a change. The front of the cars is now too stiff. The changes aren’t coming until next week.”

Took way too long, and we almost hurt a driver again because of it. So we’re just too slow. We’re too slow. We designed a car that hurts the drivers more. Took a serious step backwards from a safety standpoint, and we almost hurt another one last week,” Joy Logano added.

Logano has proven to the garage that is why he was called a leader of the sport by veteran Kevin Harvick ahead of the 2023 season. When discussing safety, the first thing he did was to ask his compatriots to join him in voicing their concerns.

The Ford Mustang driver pointed out that the drivers need to be vigilant about any possible scenario that could hurt them in the seventh-generation car. He asks his fellow drivers to explore the reason for concerns. Logano urged them to demand the required changes.

Just not fast enough. And we just need to do a good job of looking for any possible scenario that can hurt us. We need to walk the tracks ourselves. We need to find those areas, and we need to be loud. We got to be loud about where the issues are,” Logano said.
