The 2018 Dayton 500 winner, Austin Dillon, will drive in the penultimate event of the 2022 SRX Racing series at Eldora Speedway, Ohio. His teammate and two times Cup champion Kyle Busch is also set to make his Cup debut this season along with four other Cup regulars. The event will be televised via ESPN as part of Thursday night thunder.
Austin Dillon’s debut will be on August 10, and he has a strong lineup of part times ready to debut with him. The first one on the list is former Cup champion Matt Kenseth. IndyCar legend Tony Kannan and dirt racing star Ron Capps join him. They will be racing each other hard on the same machinery in the fifth race of the 2023 SRX season.
Richard Childress’s grandson is excited to race on the track known for its dirt racing background. Dillon is one of the most skillful dirt racers in the garage, and his emotional connection with the track makes it special for him. He also admitted that he is looking forward to making memories with the most accomplished names of the sport at Eldora.
“I love dirt racing. It’s so much fun, and Eldora Speedway has been such a key place for my dirt racing career over the years. I’m thrilled to be able to join SRX Racing at a track that has a lot of history and means so much to me personally. I can’t wait to make more memories at Eldora Speedway and battle along some of the most accomplished names in motorsports,” Dillon is quoted saying in the press release by SRX.
SRX chief believes Austin Dillon is a contender for the race win at Ohio
SRX Chief Executive Officer Dan Hawk, while discussing Dillon’s entry, pointed out that the RCR No:3 Chevy driver will be a contender for the win at Eldora against the experienced grid. He backed his arguments by pointing out that some of the greatest moments of the former Xfinity Series champion came at the same track.
“We are very happy to announce that Austin Dillion will be joining us at Eldora Speedway. Eldora is not new to Austin – it’s a place that he’s found success and had some great career moments. It’s my belief that Austin can jump in at Eldora against the best in the business and be right in the hunt from the drop of the green flag,” said Don Hawk.
The 2023 season has been disappointing for the Chevy driver as he is sitting P28 in the championship table while his teammate Kyle Busch has secured the playoff spot with three wins. He desperately needs to win a race this season to secure a playoff spot and prove that he still deserves a seat in the Cup.
