Three times V8 Supercars champion Shane van Gisberagan created history in the NASCAR Cup series as he won the inaugural Chicago Street Race on his debut. As a result, the driver, who is in his prime, attracted much interest from the premier stock car racing division. He is now fully invested in making a permanent switch in 2024.
Defending NASCAR Cup series champion Joey Logano is open to the driver, whom he rates very high, making the switch as he is eager to see how long it will take him to learn to drive on the oval tracks. The Oval switch will be the biggest change for the Kiwi driver as he has been driving in street and road courses his whole career, unlike the NASCAR driver who grew up around Ovals.
Logano is convinced that if one is a real racer, given enough time, he can figure out oval racing, and he added that van Gisbergen will figure it out. Speedcafe quotes the No:22 Ford driver, “I think he would figure it out. It will take a second; you’ve got to give someone like that grace, having never raced on ovals and mile-and-a-half [speedways] and those types of things.”
“But, I’m pretty sure if you’re a good race car driver, you’re going to figure it out. A good race car driver is a good race car driver; it just takes time… I hope he gets to come over full-time because I want to see how he goes. Because, obviously, what he did was incredible; he’s an amazing race car driver,” Logano added.

Shane van Gisbergen will face a real NASCAR challenge this week at Indy
SVG will start his second NASCAR race this weekend at Indy. This will be a real challenge for the driver as, unlike in Chicago, the Cup driver knows what to do at the Indy Road Course races, and it will be more chaotic than it was in Chicago.
He has minimal expectations in his return to Project 91 Chevy Camaro ZL1 as he will still have the rookie strips on his car. SVG said, “I just think it’s cool they all know my name now because they didn’t last time I was here. But I don’t know about the expectations of things. Obviously, my cars still got the yellow stripes on the back that stands out. But I still got a lot to learn.”
He will have as strong not just from the Cup regulars but from fellow ringers as well. His fellow Supercars driver Brodie Kostecki will make his Cup debut with RCR, while Sportscars racing legend Kamui Kobayashi will debut with 23XI Racing. Along with the trio of 2009 F1 world champion Jenson Button and Le Mans winner, Mike Rockenfeller will also drive on Sunday.
