RCR owner Richard Childress is the grand marshal for Sunday’s Atlanta Cup Race. The track holds a significant place in the team’s illustrious history. In 2001 Kevin Harvick was signed by RCR to replace Dale Earnhardt, who died in a tragic accident during the season opener Daytona 500. He drove the No:29 Chevy to its first win since the accident.

Kevin Harvick has announced that he will retire at the end of the season, and celebrating the greatest moment of his NACAR career, excluding the Cup title win, is a proper way to say goodbye to the sport he loves. He will start the race on P6 on Sunday and hope to secure a win in the short-superspeedway. A win can also seal the veteran a spot in the 2023 playoffs.

Harvick is excited to see his former boss and NASCAR driver Childress driving the pace car. He gave all the credit to the track for arranging such an opportunity. The SHR driver also pointed out that it will be an exciting opportunity for the fans on Sunday to see the car on the track.

I couldn’t be more excited about seeing it lead the field to the green. I know how excited Richard is, and I’m excited as well. I would give that credit to the tracks — the tracks are the ones that are putting all that together. They have a good sense of the moments and what the fans like to see,” Harvick is quoted saying by GWINETT Daily post.

While Harvick’s SHR has been struggling to secure a win this season despite being a consistent contender, Childress’s RCR has secured three wins by Kyle Busch. Childress wants his former driver to secure the win at Atlanta if his driver fails to do so.

The $300 million worth Hall of Famer team owner admitted that he would be the first person to go to the winner’s circle and celebrate the win with Harvick. He said, “I can promise you this, at Atlanta if we don’t win, I would rejoice to see Kevin win it. I would be the first one to go to the winner’s circle.”

Kevin Harvick spent 13 years at RCR before moving to SHR and securing his first title. He scored over 20 wins in his time with the Chevy team and led them in their struggling times in the Cup series by producing runs that were not expected in the RCR cars he drove.
