The 2004 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kurt Busch announced his retirement from  NASCAR Cup racing last week. He has yet to recover fully from the concussion he suffered after the 2022 Pocono qualifying crash, which played a role in his decision to end any activities in the premier division. He works behind the scenes at 23XI Racing, helping Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick.

Few match Kurt Busch’s legacy in NASCAR, and one of them is his brother and two-time Cup champion Kyle Busch. The Busch brothers are the most winningest siblings in the sports, with Kurt having  34 wins at the premier level and Kyle having won 63 Cup events. The number one factor behind their success, according to the elder brother, is their father, Tom Busch.

Kurt Busch named his father as the number one factor that helped him and his brother succeed in Motorsport. He credits their versatility and discipline to his dad. Busch told RACER, “My dad is ultimately the number one factor that helps Kyle, and I make it in all motorsports. The versatility, the working, and the discipline was always there.”

He went on to point out that while growing up, they worked on their cars and had to fix them by themselves, and had to change their counterproductive driving style. They moved up the division by selling some of the cars and were able to repurchase them once they succeeded at the top level.

We worked on the cars. When we would wreck them, we’d have to fix them, and then you would learn to race differently because it was counterproductive to moving forward. We were always able to sell off some of the cars and jump up to the next division. Then we would buy the old cars back once we made it to the sort of Cup Series. It’s all come full circle for my dad,” Busch said.

Kurt Busch explains how the Busch family helped them to succeed

The champion driver went on to explain the role played by his father Tom’s ethics and his mother and grandma being always there for them played a significant role in their rise to NASCAR divisions. He also credited the volunteers who helped them succeed as they came to help them because they were aware of the brothers’ prowess.

“But ultimately, it’s his work ethic along with my mom being there with all of us. Grandma was also always there. We had great volunteers that loved to help our race teams because what Kyle and I were out there racing; they knew we had a shot to win every single time we showed a track. And that’s what led to a lot of Kyle and I being able to move up is all the men and women that helped us at volunteering back in Las Vegas,” Kurt Busch said.

The Busch brothers hold a long list of NASCAR records to their names. Kyle is the all-time winner of the Truck and Xfinity series. He has won at least a race for the last 19 Cup seasons.  He also has won an Xfinity title as well. Kurt Busch has won the IROC title and the Daytona 500 to go alongside his Cup title. He has also secured cup race wins with all of the active engine manufacturers of the sport.
