The 2023 edition of the LA Clash marked some significant events, with the most noteworthy one being the unofficial start to the 75th anniversary season of the sport. The race also witnessed the Richard Childress Racing debut of Kyle Busch, who left Joe Gibbs Racing last season.
He finished P3 in the race behind former teammate and race winner Martin Truex Jr. and current teammate Austin Dillon. Busch had an impressive night as he made an incredible comeback from the back to the top 3. He was dumped on lap 86 after the second-half restart By defending race winner and Cup champion Joey Logano.
Compared to the 2022 inaugural event, this year was pure chaos as drivers went hard on each other in the 0.25 miles track producing 16 cautions, last year, it was just five. In a post-race media session, Busch said that the race was pure chaos because of this hard battle among the drivers.
“Last year’s show, I felt like was relatively clean and good racing, some bumping, some banging, but we could run long stretches of green-flag action, where today was, I would call it a disaster with the disrespect from everybody of just driving through each other and not just letting everything kind of work its way out,” Kyle Busch said.
Busch pointed out that the race should have been similar chaos in 2022. He said, “But it’s a ¼-mile. It’s tight-quarters racing. Actually, this is probably how it should have gone last year, so we got spoiled with a good show the first year. Maybe this was just normal,”.

Kyle Busch was a good teammate at LA

Busch showed that he had integrated well into the RCR setup with his track chemistry with Austin Dillon. He communicated well with his crew and Richard Childress throughout the race. In the final lap, he had the opportunity to move Dillon and take second place. Instead, he allowed Dillon to track down and fight Truex Jr.
“Kyle helped me there at the end. He knew we had a fast car, so he let me try and get a shot at Martin. That was nice, so hopefully, I can pay back the favor when we go to Daytona. We work together well. It’s a great start for all of us,” The No:3 driver said in the post–race interview.
“We’ve been working well together this whole weekend off the track, on the track, and having the opportunity of being able to take care of one another on a couple of those restarts. That’s just a good omen for great teamwork and good sportsmanship from the two of us, so let’s keep that rolling,” Busch said about RCR’s teamwork.
