Two-time Cup Series Champion Kyle Busch announced today that an agreement has been reached with Spire Motorsports over the sale of his Truck Series team, Kyle Busch Motorsports. Spire Motorsports made this move before starting their expansion into the Cup Series. This move will allow them to relocate to KBM’s huge 77,000-square-foot facility in Mooresville, North Carolina.
KBM was founded in 2009. The team managed to get a strong position in the Truck Series with over 100 wins. Busch, in his statement, said that he is at a different stage in his life currently and would like to give more time to his family. With his son, Brexton Busch, starting his racing career early, Busch believes he needs his guidance more than ever.
“I’m at a different point in my life now than I was back in 2010. My family has grown, my Cup Series team changed this year and our son’s racing schedule has become as demanding as my own. It’s important to me to be able to spend more time with my family and my No. 8 team at Richard Childress Racing,” said Busch in his statement.
While no official price has been revealed yet, the deal is rumored to be valued at nearly $25m. The deal also does not affect Busch’s contract with Richard Childress Racing in any way, as both teams are in partnership with Chevrolet.

Kyle Busch Motorsports’ achievements in the past 14 years
KBM came into existence in late 2009 after Kyle Busch purchased the remaining resources of Xpress Motorsports. They opened up their facility in Mooresville in 2010 after operating out of Xpress Motorsports’ former outlet for the better part of their debut season. Partnered with Toyota, the team won several accolades over the years.

They became the first team to win the owners’ championship in their debut season in 2010, with eight wins and 16 top-five finishes. They also won the drivers’ championship with Erik Jones and Christopher Bell in 2015 and 2017, respectively. KBM is one of the most successful teams in Truck Series history, with 100 wins, 48 of them being Kyle Busch’s.
Notable drivers like Bubba Wallace, William Byron, and Erik Jones have all raced for KBM in the early stages of their careers. The team was known for raising young talent who would become very successful going into the Xfinity Series and Cup Series.
