Kyle Busch made his full-time Cup debut with the No:5 HMS team, the same Kyle Larson drives for now.
Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch
Any doubt remaining on the minds of NASCAR fans about Kyle Busch acclimatizing himself with his new team Richard Childress Racing was shot down on Sunday. The No:8 Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver, who has been a challenger for a win since the LA Clash, ended his wait for the win in the second Regular season race of the year at Auto Club Speedway.
The comeback win from Busch produced more than just one milestone. 2023 was the two times Cup series champion’s 19th consecutive season with a win. Legend Richard Petty previously held the record for the run. Kyle and Kurt Busch also became the winningest brothers in NASCAR, surpassing the Allison brother with a combined 95 race wins. The win also made Busch the final Cup race winner of the auto Club speedway. The 2 miles track will now undergo reconfiguration before potentially returning to the Cup schedule.
The 37-year-old driver, who made his NASCAR debut at 16, is a role model to many of the new generation of stock car racing professionals. 2021 Cup champion Kyle Larson is one of them. The No:5 Hendrick Motorsports driver took to Twitter to share his views on Busch’s win and pointed out that the veteran has once again proved to the world that he is one of the great ever.
“Couldn’t be happier for Kyle Busch. The guy is one of the best race car drivers ever and will always be. I’m glad it only took him two races to remind the world,” he tweeted. Larson, the defending race winner, saw his challenge ending early due to a mechanical issue.
Larson teammate Chase Elliott also shared his thoughts in his post-race interview. He said, “Congratulations to Kyle (Busch). For him to leave and then go get the job done like that is pretty cool. He’s always been really good to me, so happy for them and looking forward to getting to Vegas and hopefully competing for some more wins,”.

Kyle Busch is confident about bagging more wins this season
In his post-race interview, Kyle Busch shared his thanks to RCR owner Richard Childress and his teammate Austin Dillon, who played a major role in Busch’s signing. He pointed out that joining the Chevy garage was a phenomenal experience. The veteran is confident he can challenge and potentially win many titles this season.
“This is just phenomenal. I can’t thank Richard and Judy, Childress, enough. I can’t thank Dillon enough for calling me and getting me talking and getting me this opportunity to a come over here to Richard Childress Racing and be a part of Chevrolet and be able to race the Lucas Oil Chevrolet Camaro today. To be able to put it up front like that, man,” Kyle Busch said.
“We put ourselves in a different situation and were able to come out here and be rewarded. It’s not always about me winning, but it’s about the guys. I’ve been with a lot of great people that have given me a lot of great opportunities in my career, so it’s awesome to be able to reward them. I’m going to enjoy this win for sure, and hopefully, there’s many more to come,” Kyle Busch added.
