The 2023 NASCAR season, which marks the 75th anniversary of the sport, has started unofficially with the LA Clash at Colosseum. Fans and pundits alike predict a competitive title fight this year as the teams have settled in with the Next-Gen cars. Many high-profile drivers, including the then-defending champion Kyle Larson, failed to produce their best in 2022 and are back for redemption.

Kyle Larson dominated the 2021 season and scored 10 wins on the way to the championship, and in 2022 he scored just three wins, two in the regular season and one in the playoff after his elimination. Larson’s strong start to the season was derailed by a winless run, while his teammate Chase Elliott thrived, winning the regular season championship.

Larson has set his priorities for the 2023 season and wants to start dominating the field from the start of the year. He said during his LA Clash media availability, “I think it’s always important to start the year off strong. There’s been years where I’ve struggled the first year, and kind of like you’re digging yourself out of a hole from the very beginning,”.

He wants to have a strong start and has set the goal of taking the win in every race. He said, “Although it’s a long season, it’s definitely important to get off to a good start and shape the scope of your season and how you prepare for each race, and how you call each race. The goal is to win every race, but early in the year, you want to finish to get off on the right foot,”.

Ahead of the 2023 Cup season, NASCAR announced some interesting rule changes. The major one among them was the elimination of stage breaks from the Road Course races. It was something NASCAR drivers have been demanding for a long time as the stage breaks usually take the continuity away from racing.

Kyle Larson and his teammates Chase Elliott are two of the finest Road Course racers on the grid. Larson was asked about his feelings about the change, and he pointed out that he is pleased that it provides them the opportunity to race from start to finish without any unwanted breaks.

“I think it’s good. I always thought it was odd in a road course that you would pit early before a stage. That’s just not like racing to me. Being able to race from start to finish is good. I honestly haven’t even followed along with the rules updates. I don’t know the exact rules or whatnot, but I think that’s been something teams and drivers have been trying to get NASCAR to do the last few years. It’s nice that they listen, and I think it’s going to be better overall for the race,” Kyle Larson said.
