The Coco-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway was nothing short of the wildest weekend for NASCAR fans as the ‘Crown Jewel’ of cup races ripped the Next-gen cars apart in a five-hour-long extravaganza that was produced both boredom and entertainment with an amazing finish. The 400-lap race which went into double overtime making it 5 hours long saw 18 cautions being called which ate 96 laps off the race.

Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin led the final two laps against his teammate and two times Cup champion Kyle Busch, who came up short at the end, to win his second win behind the wheels of a Next-Gen car. The day was mostly in favor of Denny Hamlin as he was able to keep his deep top 10 positions all to himself though out the race where most of his fellow front runners especially Toyota cars found themselves out of the race often.

Denny Hamlin was settling for a top 5 finish towards the end as he wasn’t able to match Kyle Larson who was then the race leader. Kyle Larson was running up front when Austin Dillon drove his No:3 car through the bottom lane to get an edge on the No:5 and forced him to lane 3 while Ross Chastain made his way to the outside of Larson. Denny Hamlin who was running behind took the chance and occupied the bottom lane.

The 4-way drag race turned into chaos quickly as Austin Dillon lost control over the car and spun taking out Kyle Larson and Ross Chastain with him. This gave Denny Hamlin enough time to make his move and take the lead avoiding the crashes while his teammate Kyle Busch also made his way through the spinning cars to get the P2 start at the final restart. Denny Hamlin was successful in holding off Busch to secure the win.
