The junior United States senator from Kentucky since 2011, Rand Paul, has asked NASCAR to return to the now-inactive 1.5-mile (2.4 km) Kentucky Speedway. The tri-oval last hosted a Cup race in 2020 which was won by Cole Custer, who now races for SHR in the Xfinity Series.

Rand Paul, who has been the representative of Kentucky over the last decade, took to Twitter to advocate for the return of the track to NASCAR. He shared a video of the 2019 iconic last-lap battle between cup champions Kyle Busch and Kurt Busch in 2019. The latter won the race in his No:1 Chip Ganassi Racing team.

It’s time to bring it back! #BringBackKYSpeedway.” He wants to see full-capacity fans (107,000 ) at Speedway Motorsports Inc operated track, which has hosted IndyCar races before making the NASCAR shift.

Three former Cup champions hold the record for the most wins at the track. The track has seen just one non-championship-winning driver in the victory lane. It was Cole Custer in 2020 in the last race held at the Speedway.

RFK Racing co-owner and No:6 Ford Mustang driver Brad Keselowski has the most Cup race wins at the track. He won the event thrice with his former team, the No:2 Team Penske Racing. The 2012 Cup champion won races in 2012, 2014, and 2016.

The 2017 Cup Series champion Joe Gibbs Racing’s No:19 Toyota Camry driver Martin Truex Jr. has won the event twice. His first win came in 2017, and his next one came in 2018.  Another driver who got two Cup wins is Two times Cup champion Kyle Busch. He won the Tracks Cup debut in 2011 and the race in 2015.

Two more Cup champions have won races at the track. The first one to do so was 2003 Cup champion Mat Kenseth in 2013 in the No:20 Camry. Kurt Busch, the 2004 Cup champion, won the event in 2019. He was driving the No:1 Chevy of CGR.
