Bubba Wallace won the second round of the playoff race ahead of playoff contenders including his TRD teammates and boss Denny Hamlin. Wallace kept his boss at bay all the way to the finish line after taking over the lead from Alex Bowman, leading a personal nest 58 laps to win the race.

This was the second win of Bubba Wallace’s cup career and his first normal win as his previous win came in the rain-suspended race at Talledega. The last win Wallace produced a divided and complex opinion on him in the NASCAR community and most of the constant critics of him used this as a case to back there claim. Bubba Wallace went on to reflect on his battle with boss Denny Hamlin pointing out that the No:11 JGR driver was strong today as he came from P25 to P2 and became a major factor in the race. He added that it was a lot of fun for him to have the lead and beat the boss.

I knew Denny was going to be strong…he wasn’t a factor at the beginning of the day, and he comes up and finishes P2. That’s what I want to start doing when we don’t have the best days…capitalizing on moments like that. It’s cool to beat the boss, but man, we were just lights out today once we got to the lead. It was a lot of fun,” Bubba Wallace explained.
