NASCAR has imposed a severe penalty on Kevin Harvick for infractions found in single-source parts of the Next-Gen car. Harvick’s No:4 car along with Martin Truex Jr’s No:19 cars was shifted to the NASCAR R&D center for a shake-down. The veteran’s car was selected as part of the random inspection post-race.

In the inspection, it was found that the No:4 team has made some unauthorized modifications of single vendor-sourced parts in the SHR Mustang. This is an L-2 level infraction under the NASCAR rule book which calls for severe penalties.

Kevin Harvick was penalized 100 championship points. The No:4 team is penalized 100 owner championship points. The 2013 cup champion’s crew Rodney Childers is suspended until the season finale. He will also have to pay a $100,000 fine. The penalty has produced some wild reactions from NASCAR fans on Twitter.

The NASCAR community on Twitter had mixed reactions to Harvick’s penalty. Some fans were quick to accuse NASCAR of trying to silence the veteran with unwanted penalties. They pointed out that it is Denny Hamlin who is next in line. At the same time, some fans were convinced that the penalty has nothing to do with Harvick speaking out and he deserves it for cheating.
