“There’s a little bit less weight on my back right now,” Daniel Suarez on how the Sonoma Cup race win has been a pressure reliever

Daniel Suarez
Daniel Suarez made it to the NASCAR history books on last Sunday’s Toyota/ Save Mart 350 hosted by the Sonoma Raceway in California as the 30 years old drove his No:99 Trackhouse Racing Chevy Camaro ZL1 to the victory lane securing his first Cup race victory alongside becoming the first Mexican to win a cup race event. Daniel Suarez held of No:17 RFK Mustang of Chris Buescher in the final stages as he topped all the 5 Fords that finished behind him.
The Sonoma run marks the third cup race win for the Trackhouse Racing team, where the other two wins were secured this season by Suarez’s teammate No:1 car driver Ross Chastain, as the team contentious to establish itself as one of the top teams in NASCAR. Daniel Suarez would have secured more than one win early this season if not for his bad luck as he had to bail out of multiple race-winning runs after his car failed to match his ambition.
Suarez, who is among the first batch of graduates from the Drive for Diversity initiatives has been a prominent figure of success in the pack though he has been always underappreciated for his consistency as he couldn’t get a win thus far. Now following his first career win the 2017 Xfinity series champion has come forth saying he feels like a shortened wight on his back following the win.

Daniel Suarez acknowledged that this definitely changes when it comes to the relief he has now as he feels lighter and feels like there has been a weight that was taken off his back saying “It definitely changes a lot when it comes to relief. I can tell you that I feel lighter. There’s a little bit less weight on my back right now,”.
Daniel Suarez went on to say that it wasn’t fun for him to hear every time people asked him when is going to get a win or why aren’t you winning when his teammate is winning races as it started to add up. He added that he knew he was a winning driver and his team is getting better and better each race and they were able do that, just keep finding things to be better.
“It wasn’t fun to get the question, ‘Hey, when are you going to win?’ ‘Hey, your teammate is winning; why are you not winning?’ Those things eventually start adding up, and I know I’m a winning driver, and I know my team was getting better and better, and together we’re building something great. My pit crew — they just keep finding things to be better,” Daniel Suarez said.
He went on to say that it feels good and right to get a win though it took more time than he anticipated. Daniel Suárez added that he feels like he is in a place where he could only dream of as the team is getting better and improving the relationship they have. He pointed out that his team is in a very good position to be successful for the rest of the year.
“It feels good. It just feels right. I think it took definitely a little bit longer than I thought, but I feel that, right now, we are in a place that I could only dream [of]. We’re in an amazing place with our team. We keep getting better. We keep improving. Our relationship is amazing. I feel that we’re in a very, very good place to continue to be successful the rest of the year,” Daniel Suarez added.
