NASCAR Cup outing in the Northern California wine country was a quiet affair contrary to the previous races this season but the final result at the end made the fan’s wait worthwhile as it marked one of the historic moments in NASCAR. Trackhouse Racing No:99 Chevy Camaro ZL1 was driven to victory lane by Daniel Suarez who was making his 195th career cup start, making him the first Mexican-born Cup race winner.

The 30-years old who is the Xfinity Series champion of 2016 made his way into the cup series the following year but had to wait for more than 5 years to make his dream of winning cup race a reality. The Mexican superstar made his way NASCAR taking part in the NASCAR Drive for Diversity initiative as he moved from Mexico to US in an early age with limited understanding of the language and culture.

Daniel Suarez third win of the season which also marks the third win of the season for Trackhouse Racing, with the other two win coming from his teammate Ross Chastain. The Mexicans win in the Trackhouse colours was overdue for some times and if not for his bad luck he would have won it a long time ago, as he  was able to establish himself as one of the most consistent drivers in terms of speed and performance this season.

Daniel Suarez acknowledged that It’s a crazy feeling to win a race as he has so many thoughts in his head right now. He pointed out that it has been a rough journey for him in the cup series over the years but the people around him believed in him. He went on to say he got a lot of people to thank especially his family who never gave up on him, even when a lot of others did. He added that he is just happy that they were able to make it work at Sonoma.

It’s crazy. I have so many thoughts in my head right now. It’s been a rough journey in the Cup Series, and these guys believed in me. I have a lot of people to thank in Mexico. My family, they never gave up on me. A lot of people did, but they didn’t. I’m just happy we were able to make it work,” Daniel Suarez said.

Daniel Suarez went on to address the trust and time which was invested in him by the Trackhouse Racing team, which he was a flag bearer of since their entry into the cup series last season in his No:99 Chevy saying that the team believed in him since day one and made this all happening with the help of the resources and people, they put in. Addressing his fans in Mexico, Suarez said to them in Spanish that this is just the beginning of many wins for them.

“They believed in me since Day One. [We’ve got] all the people, all the resources to make it happen,”
