NASCAR Hall of Famer Tony Stewart has called Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson the favorite to win the 2023 Cup title. Larson was the first driver to book a spot in the championship-4 by winning the opening Round of Eight win at Las Vegas. He has two solid weeks before him to prepare for the finale at Phoenix Raceway.
When asked to pick the favorite to win the 2023 Championship, Stewart, who has won three Cup titles in his career, didn’t have to think twice to pick Larson. He proclaims him as the safest bet one can put on a driver to win the title. The SHR co-owner also likened the driver to his racer, Kevin Harvick, who will retire this season.
I don’t know how you don’t bet on Kyle Larson going back to Phoenix and winning a championship again. I mean, Kyle is just one of those guys that, when the big shows come up and when the big moments come up, he rises to the occasion. He is another Kevin Harvick.
Stewart said, as reported by brobible.
If Larson wins the title, his second in just three years with HMS, as predicted by Stewart, he will match Joey Logano and Kyle Busch as the active Cup racers with the most titles. But the major challenge he will face in the finale will most probably be his teammate Willaim Byron, who, though he hasn’t booked a spot in the finale, is a favorite.
Tony Stewart explains why he sees a Kevin Harvick in Kyle Larson
Stewart explained why he sees Harvick in Larson. He highlighted some of the characteristics the duo shares to back his claim. The SHR co-owner says Larson is one of the few drivers who could deliver at any track regardless of the pressure on his shoulder.
He is just one of those guys that when all the chips are on the table, he knows what it takes to get it done, and the big pressure situations just don’t get to him. I mean, you cannot rattle that kid. He just goes, gets in that car, and does his job.
Harvick is one of the last legacy drivers of the sport, and his retirement will leave a big hole in the sport. Larson seems a good option for fans who look to support another driver once Harvick retires, as both are very liked in the community and are among the top talents the sport has ever produced.
