The NASCAR Cup series has witnessed one of the most fierce yet respectful racing in a long time at Atlanta. Team Penske Racing Joey Lognao scored his first win of the season after an impressive last-lap run on former teammate Brad Keselowski. Logano started the race at P1 and led 140 of 260 laps. Chase Elliott won the last year at Atlanta after sitting on the pole last summer.

Brad Keselowski and Austin Cindric were the challengers for the in throughout the race alongside the defending cup champion. The RFK Racing owner driver led a handful of laps before the impressive last-lap pass of Logano with just two corners left in the race. Logano had help from TRD driver Christophe Bell who finished the race P3.

Bell Pushed Logano and gave him enough momentum to overtake Keselowski outside and stay in front. While the Xfinity series race turned out to be a caution ridden wreck-fest, the seniors lectured them about the close quarter, respectful, hard racing. The veteran deserved extra credit for putting on a great show.

A Ford winning at Atlanta was no big surprise as they had proved how dominant their cars were on Saturday. AMS marked the first win of Ford and a non-Chevy manufacturer this season, and the fact that it came in a non-traditional track worries them.

Joey Logano was ecstatic after the win. The veteran’s 32nd Cup win has helped him to end the drought at the track where he spent a lot of his growing years at.  He said, “Yeah, first off, so special to win Atlanta for me. So many memories of me and my dad racing right here on the quarter mile. This is the full circle for us. So many memories are gritting over there with the Legends car, racing, having a big time,”.

Dreaming of going straight at the quarter mile and going onto the big track. That was always the dream to do it. To finally win here means so much to me here personally, but the team (too). The Auto Trader Mustang—this thing was an animal. Very, very fast. Able to lead a ton of laps, race really hard there at the end, get a good push from the No. 20 (Bell) to clear myself. Huge victory. Nice to get one early in the season. Always feels better, but what a great day for us,” Joey Logano added.
