The Rodney Childers-Kevin Harvick pairing is the most successful active crew-chief driver duo in the Cup grid. They have won 37 cup races since they made their debut together for the Stewart Hass Racing No:4 team in 2024. The duo had the best start possible in the Cup series as they won the championship in their first season together.

Though they failed to secure the second championship, Childress made Harvick one of the greatest of his generation and vice versa. Childers is younger than his driver, and it helped them mold a friendship that increased their productivity. So, Harvick’s retirement decision made Childress cry, and he wasn’t shy of accepting it. He wrote on Twitter, “Has everyone else cried as many times as me today?!? Whew.. What a day,”.

The legendary crew chief wrote a wholesome message to Harvick regarding the retirement decision, where he reflected on their time together on and off the field. He revealed how Harvick gave him the opportunity of a lifetime when he asked him to join the SHR No:4 crew as Childers failed to achieve any reasonable success with the six previous drivers he partnered with.

In 2013 I was kinda lost at what I wanted to do with my life. Then KH called and wanted me to start the 4 teams with him. He looked me in the eyes and told me he believed in me and wanted to win races and championships with me. He gave me the chance of a lifetime,” He wrote on Twitter.

In that chance, our relationship has never wavered. It’s been easy, every day. We’ve talked every day for 9 years. Our passion and push to be the best have never changed. And isn’t going to change. We still want to win every single week that we show up,” Childers added.

Childress listed out his accomplishment together with Harvick. He wrote, “In this span together we’ve won a championship, won 37 races, 25 poles, 145 top 5s, and 366 top 10s. Two Brickyard 400s, Two Southern 500s, Two Bristol night races, A million-dollar All-Star race, and many more…”

But more than all houses win, he cherishes the brotherhood they formed within themselves and the o:4 new. Childers says, “But most of all, we became brothers. Best friends.  He taught me to be a better person, smarter, and more intelligent.  And most of all we learned what good people with the same goals can do if they really want it. Our team is our backbone, and they have believed from day one,”.

He went on to thank Harvick and his fans for the constraint support. Childers added, “So, I’m thankful for him giving me a chance. Believing in me and the guys on this team. And the diehard KH fans that have had my back thru good times and bad, thank you.  This year is going to be fun, and we are going to race like hell,”.
