The NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday at Gateway, the Enjoy Illinois 300, witnessed some wild moments, including 18 cautions alongside two red flags. Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Chase Briscoe were involved in the chaos. The incident that had a negative impact on the duo’s championship aspirations occurred with 27 laps left in the race.
The No:9 Chevy’s break rooter failed and he lost control of his car. The No:19 Toyota was collected in the chaos alongside few other drivers. They had a productive conversation soon after the incident, where the 2020 apologized for the incident to which the TRD driver responded by highlighting it was not his mistake that led to the drama.

Further talking about the incident post-race, Chase Elliott highlighted how brake rotors have been their Achilles heel at Glen, since the start of the Next-Gen era. He admitted that it is hard to find a solid solution for the issue, as the track design with the long straightaways and heavy breaking zone makes it harder.
We’ve been blowing brake rotors since we started coming here in this particular vehicle, so, obviously we’re in a box there where you can’t do a whole lot about it. Long straightaways with heavy braking on both ends of the track, it just puts you in a really tight box as it pertains to temperatures and making the brakes live.
Chase Elliott said.
Later in the same conversation, the former champion asserted that he needs luck in the future to avoid getting involved in such situation. Elliott would be looking forward to finding his luck next time he gets to race at the iconic venue next year.
You can get it right, but there’s definitely some luck involved. Just how they cool and how they come back up to temperature, the cycles, all the stuff. Unfortunately, we were on the bad end of that today.

Chase Briscoe admits he was at the wrong place at the wrong time
On his post-race interview, Chase Briscoe also confirmed that there wasn’t much the No:9 Chevy driver could do to avoid getting involved in the drama. He highlighted how they were involved in the mess from the start of the race and admitted that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, when Elliott got into him.

It felt like we used eight of our lives up there early in the race, a lot of different things. Just weird stuff. Finally ran out of lives there at the end there. … Just unfortunate. Wrong place, wrong time, and you’re going to have that in racing sometimes.
Chase Briscoe said post-race.
Going into next weeks’ race at Bristol Motor Speedway, both drivers have to bring their A-Game as one more off-day would ruin their championship hopes. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for them in the upcoming days.
