Ty Gibbs is the 2022 Xfinity series champion

Ty Gibbs, the 2022 Xfinity series champion, is promoted to drive in the cup series for his grandfather Joe Gibbs. He replaces Kyle Busch, the best Toyota driver ever in NASCAR, who joined RCR after spending 15 years with TRD. Gibbs will drive the No:54 Camry next year and will take over the assets of the No:18 team.

Joe Gibbs Racing has revealed that they will “utilize the No. 18 in the NASCAR Cup Series in future years” in the Gibbs announcement. The youngster used the No:54  in his impressive championship run this year. He secured the championship with seven wins and 23 top-10 finishes this season.

Ty Gibbs was expected to make the cup switch after news of Kyle Busch’s exit surfaced. He is known for his aggressive driving style which sometimes crosses limits. He became one of the most hated drivers in NASCAR after he wrecked his teammate to win the Round of 8 cut-off race at Martinsville. Though he won the season finale fair and square, he is yet to earn back the fan’s respect.

Gibbs has had nearly a part-time season in the cup series this season. He was the substitute driver for 23X1 Racing No:45 and later the No:23 team. He got the opportunity after the veteran Kurt Busch was ruled out due to a concussion. He made 15 starts and secured a top-10 finish with them. driving alongside Bubba Wallace.

The reaction from fans on Twitter was mixed. No one was surprised by the announcement since it was always expected from the JGR garage. The death of Ty Gibbs after just a day after his championship win restrained some from criticizing the youngster. The fans were happy about the fact that he wasn’t talking over the No:18 drive. Fans want Joe Gibbs to retire the No:18 in honor of Busch.
