“I feel like Black Jesus”: Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards praises himself following final quarter heroics against Blazers
Anthony Edwards
Anthony Edwards has been an exceptional player this season as he along with teammate Karl-Anthony Towns work together to carry the Minnesota Timberwolves in playoff contention. Edwards was drafted by the Timberwolves as the number one overall pick ahead of LaMelo Ball.
This season the young star has managed to bag several important wins against some of the league’s top teams like the Golden State Warriors, Memphis Grizzlies, and Brooklyn Nets. They are currently seated at the seventh seed in the Western Conference with 24 wins and 23 losses.
The young player had an incredible 14-point fourth quarter during the Timberwolves win over the Portland Trail Blazers. It was Edwards’ reliable and consistent shot from three that managed to grab the T-Wolves another victory 109-107. The Blazers were handed over their second loss of this regular-season series.
Anthony Edwards says he will be MVP next season
Prior to the game at Portland, Anthony Edwards went down after colliding with Brooklyn Nets’ Day’Ron Sharpe at mid-court. Edwards had walked towards the Timberwolves bench while the whistle was being blown. The player was eventually carried out from the court and missed the rest of the game.
While many were certain that Edwards would not return, to their surprise the player made an appearance and dropped a 40 piece with 14-points being scored in the final quarter alone. Edwards went 14 of 25 from the field knocking down five huge three-pointers for the team. Along with that, he had 9 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 blocks, and no assists.
The last and only person who had recorded the same stat-line at the age of 20 or younger was none other than Carmelo Anthony. On being asked about how he felt during the Timberwolves comeback Edwards replied saying,” I feel like Black Jesus.” He also believes that he will be competing for the Most Valuable Player award next season.
Head Coach Chris Finch had some encouraging words about Anthony Edwards. “He’s got such a great spirit about him. He’s pretty much indomitable in that regard. His teammates love him. And they love him for not only how he plays but who he is as a player because he’s genuine,” said Coach Finch.
`The guard is averaging 22.7 points with 5.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists shooting 44.6% from the field and 37.6% from three making at least 3.3 per game. His role on the team has intensified the playing style of the Timberwolves. He has incredible potential in scoring the ball like many of the league’s bests at the moment.
Twitter reacts to Anthony Edwards’ remarks on his own performance
Before we peek at the fan reactions, something else managed to grab ahold of their eyes. If you had noticed teammate D’Angelo Russell response after Edwards’ comments, the internet followed with a long thread of tweets saying,” Talk to em,” followed by a few other different reactions.
