“I smoked the layup”- Jaylen Brown unveils real emotions after missing ‘Clutch-layup’

Every match comes with a new lesson and this time it’s Jaylen Brown’s turn to learn it but through a hard way.

If a word is to be used for Jaylen Brown this season then it’d definitely be phenomenal. Since he got drafted, Jaylen has time and again proved to be a point-scoring machine for the Celtics. And, when the Celtics drafted Jayson Tatum in 2017, then it was a win-win situation for them.

Even though Jaylen had to sit out in the later months during last season after he tore the scapholunate ligament in his left wrist around mid-April. He successfully recovered from his surgery and was all energized to make a comeback.

Both Jaylen and Jayson averaged 24.7 and 26.4 points per game (PPG) during the 2020-2021 NBA season, and are currently averaging 24.5 and 25.4 points. Their consistency is one of the reasons for Boston’s consistency scoring ability irrespective of the fact they are tanking as a team.

The Boston Celtics hosted the San Antonio Spurs at the TD Garden on Wednesday. The clash ended with the Celtics’ defeat by a mere two points. The match was a tight-knit one as both the teams refused to give the other the opportunity to dominate the court.

The Texans managed to lead with a two-point difference during the last minutes. Though the Celtics had the opportunity to take the game into OT they blew it.

With five seconds on the clock in the 4th quarter, Jaylen Brown had the opportunity to become the lifesaver for the Celtics by scoring a clutch-layup after flawlessly stealing the ball from the Spurs But Jaylen failed to deliver.

During the post-match conference, Jaylen Brown attended this question regarding what is going on in his mind after missing the game-changing shot. He replied, “I smoked the layup. I had a good steal, was going against the clock. I just blew the layup. … It’s a tough loss. What can you say? We’ve got another game.”

Jaylen dropped a 30 pointer game with 6 rebounds, and 1 assist against the Spurs. Though it might have been a big night for him as a player it sure wasn’t one for his team who had to experience their 20th loss of this season.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich became the first coach to have coached 2,000 NBA games. He too addressed Jaylen missing the clutch layup during the post-match interview.

Popovich said, “We made mistakes, we turned it over. They made mistakes, turned it over. Jaylen missed a layup at the end, we threw it right to him.”

The Boston Celtics are 18-20 in the league and currently at 10th in the Eastern Conference. They will face the New York Knicks today at the Madison Square Garden at 7:30 EST.
