‘LeBron James is a great team player’:Shannon Sharpe rips Russell Westbrook for letting down Lakers with insane turnovers
Shannon Sharpe and Russell Westbrook
Russell Westbrook has gotten himself in a messy situation this season and his last game had not done him any justice. The former MVP has bene struggling to fit into the Los Angeles Lakers system and the reason as to why still remains unknown, unless it has to do with age of course.
In an eventual win against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Lakers point guard had a total of nine turnovers and as a result was benched by head coach Frank Vogel. Despite the Lakers making more efforts to win games it seems as if LeBron James still carries the weight of his entire team.
Shannon Sharpe trashes Russell Westbrook for disappointing season
NBA analyst Shannon Sharpe and Skip Bayless of the Undisputed show had sat to address the Westbrook situation, Sharpe said, ”I don’t care how great your team is, you give me a quarterback that turns the ball over and you can’t play well enough around him… Look at LeBron what he’s doing he’s doing thinsg like he’s and he still can’t overcome him (Westbrook). The man is averaging 30, 10 and 8 and he can’t overcome that play.”
This was said based Westbrook’s performance against the Timberwolves after turning over the ball multiple times and missing important shots from the midrange. The player has often been criticized on his lack of ability to produce during crunch time and shooting the ball in the general. But now it seems as if Westbrook cannot convert a simple layup as you would have witnessed during their game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
“Kevin Durant was winning four scoring titles, averaging 32 shooting 50 percent from the floor. He couldn’t over that in his prime. And we expect LeBron James to overcome that in year nineteen? He doesn’t get it, he doesn’t care to get it.” said Sharpe.
During LeBron’s absence the Lakers had failed to win games and even after his return, it took the 37 year old veteran to completely take over on offense to win. Sharpe had compared the situation Kevin Durant in his prime having problems being teammates with Westbrook in Oklahoma, to the current scenario of the Lakers and he had a valid point.
Russ remains inconsistent for purple and gold
Russell Westbrook had spoken about his performance during the post-game press conference and he said, ”My game, you know, is fine. My game is not predicated on shots or if I turn the ball over. Like, I miss some shots, that’s part of the game. I’m allowed to miss shots. I can do that. Like any other player, I can do that. I can turn the ball over, too. I can do that. That’s all a part of the game.”
Westbrook always seems to have some sort of a cover for his otherwise obvious mistakes. His teammates and coaching staff are more aware of the concerning numbers put up by the player. “Had a tough night, tonight. But he’s improving and we’re evolving offensively. So, the guys are in different spots, and some of that is the pieces moving around in that and it’s not just him.” said Head Coach Frank Vogel.
His own teammate LeBron James came forth to speak about their underwhelming performance despite the win. James admitted said that it the turnovers that hurts the team the most and it has to reduce. Westbrook had finished with 20 points, 5 assist and 3 rebounds on 7 for 16 shooting hitting 6 of 8 free throws. Westbrook’s miserable first half almost cost the Lakers another win but the team had made adjustments and played harder during the second half which solidified a win in their records.
