Phoenix Suns’ president and CEO Jason Rowley resigned from his position in the organization. The resignation came following the investigation into the misconduct allegations from employees in the organization. The same allegation was slapped against the former team owner Robert Sarver, who later sold the team to Mat Ishbia. The news was reported by ESPN’s reporter Baxter Holmes.

The employees within the organization were informed of the news through an internal email from Suns’ interim governor Sam Garvin. The email read, “I wanted to let you know that Jason Rowley made the decision to leave the organization,” Garvin wrote. He also added that after long service and dedication to the organization, Rowly felt that it was time for transition. “After almost 15 years of hard work and dedicated service, Jason felt that the transition in ownership created ideal timing to close this chapter of his professional journey and pursue new opportunities,” wrote Garvin. “We wish Jason the best and are appreciative of his tireless work on behalf of our organization.”

Rowly joined the Suns in 2007, however, he served the Suns’ as president of the team since 2012. His resignation has come ahead of the major announcement coming in Suns’ way on Wednesday. Ishbia is all set to announce the team’s majority owner, according to ESPN. Previously, Ishbia had bought the Suns from Sarver at a $4 billion valuation. Finally, the purchase was approved by the league’s board of governors on Monday.

Jason Rowley came in Robert Sarver’s defense in 2021 after multiple allegations by workers

Robert Sarver and Jason Rowley

When allegations of sexism and racism were hit against the former Suns’ owner, Rowly came in Sarver’s defense and said the team owner was not a racist or a sexist. Back in October 2021, Jason Rowley said in a statement, “This story is completely outrageous and false. It doesn’t represent, at all, the Robert Sarver I’ve worked alongside for 15 years. He’s not a racist and he’s not a sexist.”

Back in 2021, after going 0-3 in the season, Sarver used the N-word several times in front of then-coach Earl Watson. Golden State Warriors “You know, why does Draymond Green get to run up the court and say [N-word],” Sarver said, and kept repeating the N-word several times in a row. “You can’t say that,” Watson said. Watson himself comes from Black and Hispanic descent. “Draymond Green says [N-word],” Sarver replied. “You can’t f—ing say that,” Watson reiterated again. Rowly was all set to resign from his position in 2021, but he later said that he would not resign because the allegations against him were wrong.
