Charles Barkley is one of those people whose honesty precedes his personality. The former Phoenix Suns legend and the NBA analyst on NBA on TNT does not shy away from speaking his mind and for sure he does not believe in sugarcoating his criticisms of players and teams. From hilariously trolling San Antonio women to trolling a “cashier guy” on TNT, Barkley is ready to swing his hammer without no fear.
One of the reasons the NBA on TNT is fun to watch is because of Barkley and his unfiltered comments about the silliest things in the room. He is never tired of “guuuaraaanteeee” even when he is not sure. Every time he uses a broom to guarantee a sweep, the opposite team wins. He tried to ride a baby cycle to win the $5k bet with Shaquille O’Neal and almost fell down. Barkley is just another name for fun.
However, as it happens to be; honesty does not mean the truth; Barkley has also been called out and brutally shut down by people either to his face or through other mediums. Players like Memphis Depay, Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, and Luka Doncic, and as names in the list grow, have one thing in common; they did not spare Barkley when the ball was in their court. Memphis Depay brutally shuts down Charles Barkley
Before the US men’s national soccer team was facing the Netherlands in the Qatar World Cup, the former All-Star started trash-talking on national television saying, “We opening up a can of whoop-a**. I guarantee the Netherlands is in trouble.” It did not go very well for Barkley after the US team lost the match.
Although the Dutch team’s official Twitter account fired back at Barkley before the game was about to begin; the real thrashing came afterward. After defeating the US football team by 3-1, the Barcelona FC and Netherlands forward Memphis Depay brutally trolled Barkley writing ” Lotta bark, no bite.” The post came on Twitter and had sad Barkley’s face on the post.
Stephen Curry calls out Carles Barkley’s comments pertaining to Klay Thompson
Barkley was slammed by NBA superstar and defending NBA Finals MVP Stephen Curry after Barkley called out Thompson and said that he wasn’t Klay Thompson anymore. Barkley said, “There was a time when Klay Thompson was the best two-way guard in the NBA, and he’s not the same guy and that’s because of injuries,” Barkley said. “Is he done? No, I don’t think he’s done. I think he’s slowing down and it’s catching up with him, that’s why he’s frustrated.”
Curry did not hold back against Barkley and defended his Splash Brother. Steph clapped back saying, “The comments are part of our success…But it’s interesting because certain guys forget what their careers looked like on the back end.” Validating Thompson’s legitimacy Curry added, “So you can kind of cast and throw those stones, but Klay’s still in here, like you said, helping us win a championship after the two hellish years that he had.”
Luka Doncic gives a blunt answer to Charles Barkley
Perhaps the silliest and the most honest answer to Barkley came from none other than the Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic. Throwing shade at Luka’s game Charles Barkley said, “I think you guys need to play at a faster pace. Because when y’all walk the ball up and down the court, it makes it a one-on-one game for you. Do you guys think y’all need to play at a much faster pace?”
Being one of the best passers in the league and a natural passer, Doncic perhaps did not like the question at the first place. The Slovenian guard bluntly replied, “Yeah we have [to]. But, I’m slow. That’s probably the problem why we play slower. But I think you’re right.” What followed was absolutely nothing from Charles.
Despite everything that Charles Barkley has said that has made no sense, back and forth with Shaq on the show, shut down by players and the opponents, there is a reason fans have frequently called him a “national treasure.” For many, Barkley’s mouth precedes his thoughts but any Charles Barkley other than this wouldn’t be who fans love dearly.
