“I’ve been telling people for two years now,” 4x NBA Champ reveals why he’s not counting out the LA Lakers just yet

Draymond Green says he is not counting LA Lakers out of the championship contention. However, he does not believe there is even a single team in the Western Conference that can beat the Golden State Warriors when they are playing their best game. The Warriors have a 14-13 record in the Western Conference and if the playoffs started after 27 games, they would be in the Play-In tournament.

Even though the Warriors do not have a record to boast about right now or be confident about their position in Western Conference, Draymond Green isn’t threatened at all by any of the teams in the West. Green said that there is and always should be an “appropriate fear” about the opponents but he is not concerned at all.

I’m not concerned about anybody in the West,” Green told ESPN’s “NBA Countdown” on Saturday before the Warriors’ game against the Celtics. “I think there are good teams in the West, good teams that you have to fear, have the appropriate fears [as] coach Kerr always talks about.” The Lakers are 11-15 this season and are in the 12th spot in the Western Conference and not many fear them even though they have a star-studded roster. But Draymond Green like always has a unique take on the situation.

For their share, the Warriors suffered their share of losses earlier in the season, when they lost 9 consecutive road games. However, Green and the Warriors are coming around and ascending the record ladder in a few games. But it would be too early to give them the benefit of the doubt.

While there are teams in the West to beat, not more than two teams seem promising right now. Phoenix Suns and the New Orleans Pelicans have come out as two serious teams for the championship this season. But many believe the Suns’ Championship window closed 2 years ago. The Lakers are catching up with their rhythm in the last few weeks and their hopes look promising at least for a playoff birth.

Draymond said Phoenix Suns is one of the teams in the West he would definitely be careful about. “Phoenix is one of those teams.” However, to the surprise of many, Green also added the Lakers into the conversation. He said, “I’ve been telling everybody for two years now. I’m never counting the Lakers out. They got LeBron James; they got Anthony Davis. They got Russell Westbrook. I’m never counting them out.”

Green, despite that, does not believe even one team can beat them when they are playing their best games. He added, “I don’t worry about anybody in the West. I have appropriate fear, and I know what teams are capable of, but I know if we play our A-game, nobody’s beating us.” Green also added that Bucks are the team that he has his other eye on when the question of threat comes to the defending champions.
