Anthony Davis will continue at the Lakers, as Kyrie Irving may arrive in LA

The LA Lakers were primed to be a force to reckon with this season, after Anthony Davis got injured, nothing went their way, as they ended up being one of the biggest disappointments in the recent NBA history, and the future looks bleak for the power forward. Lakers get to grips with their disastrous season and have been looking for change in personnel, with rumors of Kyrie Irving reuniting with Lebron becoming persistent.

The Los Angeles Lakers star-studded team not making into the playoffs was and has been one of the biggest talking points in and around the world of NBA. With One of the All-Time Greats, LeBron James himself, and two future Hall of Famers in Anthony Davis and freshly traded, Russell Westbrook, the Lakers looked scary on paper, not so much on court.

The Lakers are getting all the limelight this postseason, after they appointed Darvin Ham as their new Head Coach for the 2022-2023 season. While everybody criticized Lebron James and Russell Westbrook, Anthony Davis has had his fair share of blame, as he was very irresponsible related to his injuries throughout the season. The Lakers tried to keep their hopes alive to make it to the playoffs, but failed drastically against the Phoenix Suns, as AD admitted in a video that it was the last time he shot a basketball, receiving huge backlash from his critics

Is Anthony Davis’s time at the Lakers up ? Will Kyrie be back with his good friend Lebron ?

The 2021-22 NBA season did not go as planned for the Basketball giants In Los Angeles. They started the season poorly and didn’t seem to take games seriously until after the All-Star break. There seemed to be a lack of urgency among the players in general, with all the injuries, they never developed any rhythm. The Lakers gave up so much to acquire Anthony Davis back in 2019. In exchange for his services, they sent Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and three first-round picks to New Orleans.

Once Davis went down with an MCL Sprain the Lakers had only the aging Dwight Howard for size, the next biggest player was the 6′8″ Lebron James and a similar-sized Carmelo Anthony. The team looked dependent on the play of Anthony Davis, a player with a history of injuries. Instead of putting personnel in place to take some of the pressure from AD, they got rid of basically all their big & key men such as Kuzma, KCP, and Caruso which put AD in a position where he was more likely to be injured, as the season went downhill for the Lakers.

Kyrie Irving is considered as the player with the best handles in league, he is argued as the best in the history of basketball when it comes to handles, alongside Allen Iverson. The Brooklyn Nets had one of the most nightmarish seasons, with catastrophes on and off the court, as the Nets were swept off their feet by The Boston Celtics in the first round of playoffs, concluding their disappointing season and a disastrous postseason, far below preseason hopes and expectations. Initial reports made claims that AD may be involved in a swap deal for Kyrie Irving, however, that offer now appears to be off the table, according to ESPN’s Zack Lowe.

Kyrie Irving failed to lead the Brooklyn Nets past the first round of the playoffs this season. The whole scenario surrounding the team had been extremely upsetting considering the amount of the hype that was created on them making a title run once they had a full roster, but it was a complete hundred and eighty. Irving has a June 29 deadline on his $36.9 million player option for the 2022-2023 season, he can still join the Lakers by opting out of the last year on his contract and signing for them through their $6 million taxpayer midlevel exception or picking up his player option and having L.A. and Brooklyn engineer a trade that would send him to California.

While both Irving and Durant joined the Nets during the summer of 2019, it’s been an era of disappointment and untapped potential thus far. The Big 3 of the Nets, consisting of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden played just 16 games together, making it hard to cash in fully on their names. Durant missed a quarter of this season due to a knee injury, Irving missed nearly two-thirds due to his refusal to get vaccinated, and Harden demanded a trade — one that brought back Ben Simmons, who still hasn’t played.

After winning the 2020 championship, Davis endured several injuries which sidelined him for long stretches. Davis has played in only 76 games in the last two seasons out of a potential 154. A dysfunctional team, poor decision making, lack of rhythm, and good players to fill in roles, all these factors led to the Lakers having a record of 33-49 in 2021-22 and crashing out of the playoff. They would rather forget this season and start afresh, its only a matter of time before AD shuts his critics down, hopefully. As for Kyrie, is a reunion with Lebron James on the cards for him, probably Yes !
