“Boston and Memphis deserve the nod” Stephen A. Smith thinks these teams could stop the Warriors from another championship

Before the 2022-23 season began Stephen A. Smith predicted that the Golden State Warriors would repeat their championship. However, in a recent conversation with Draymond Green, Smith backtracked from his statement. He said that there are still teams in the Western Conference like the Memphis Grizzlies that would prevent the Dubs from going for another championship run, or getting out of the conference itself.
Earlier, the ESPN analyst had said that the Warriors would meet the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA Finals showdown. On “Draymond Green Show” Smith admitted to picking the Warriors, but he also admitted that the Warriors do not look like a championship-caliber team. “At the start of the season, I had y’all. The Golden State Warriors vs. the Brooklyn Nets,” Smith told Green. However, he also said that he isn’t worried about the Warriors. “My prediction, I don’t think, is looking that bad right now. I’m not worried about y’all the way everybody else is,” Smith added.
In the last few episodes of “First Take” Stephen A. Smith has expressed his concerns about the young stars on the Warriors roster. Interestingly, when he declared their championship run, he had credited the young core itself to help the Warriors repeat the championship. He had predicted the growth of players like Jonathan Kuminga, and James Wiseman, who would elevate their games for the Warriors’ unchallenged dominance in the league. However, that has not been the case so far.

Smith acknowledged that other teams like Celtics and the Grizzlies do deserve shoutouts for their performances this season. “I would tell you that Boston and Memphis deserve the nod today.” However, he admitted that he is still expecting a Warriors vs Brooklyn Nets NBA Finals showdown. “I’m holding on for dear life of my preseason prediction, y’all vs. the Brooklyn Nets,” Smith said.
What Smith said next has been perhaps in every Warriors fan and analyst. He pointed out Klay Thompson’s bad games this season, where he has been largely non-existent on the Warriors’ stat sheet. “I don’t know what the hell was going on with him the previous 17, 18 games I witnessed,” Smith remarked. Smith is not wrong in his opinion.
Since his return from the injury, he has been far from looking like Klay Thompson. He was one of the most feared guards in the league. Thompson could defend any given player on any given night and shoot the lights out in the arena. If they expect to win another championship, Thompson has to return in his vintage form.
