“This is bigger than basketball” Brooklyn Nets’ owner Joe Tsai expresses disappointment over Kyrie Irving for promoting an anti-semitic movie
Joe Tsai and Kyrie Irving
Kyrie Irving has never stayed outside of the world of controversy. For over a year now, his name has been plastered all over NBA-related drama. After a few months of silence, the player made the headlines once again for supporting an antisemitic movie titled, ‘Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America.’
Even though the point guard’s intentions may have been to show support towards the black community, the film is an adaption of a book that has a controversial theme to it. The former NBA champion has received a lot of backlash for his actions. Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai also took to Twitter to express how disappointed he felt over the incident.
He said, “I’m disappointed that Kyrie appears to support a film based on a book full of anti-semitic disinformation. I want to sit down and make sure he understands this is hurtful to all of us, and as a man of faith, it is wrong to promote hate based on race, ethnicity or religious.”
Tsai’s thread ended with him also saying, “This is bigger than basketball.” Kyrie Irving has always been someone who would speak up on topics that aren’t usually spoken about or well received. His issue with the COVID-19 vaccination was much deeper than what people had originally speculated.

The Brooklyn Nets condemn Kyrie Irving’s anti-semitic actions
This season has been going well for Kyrie Irving irrespective of his team. The player has always been a consistent scorer of the ball with the ability to shoot at high levels. He currently averages 29.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. Despite his efforts, the Nets have only one win out of the five games already played.
The franchise released a statement on the issue via Nets Daily on Twitter, saying, “The Brooklyn Nets strongly condemn and have no tolerance for the promotion of any form of hate speech.” The point guard is yet to comment on the issue but it seems to be blowing up every passing second.
