“This is embarrassing” – Celtics fans slam Jaylen Brown for dull response to standing ovation from the Boston crowd
Jaylen Brown was on the receiving end of criticism from the Celtics fans after he responded to their Standing ovation passively.
The Boston Celtics built extremely well on the momentum built by the team last year. A heartbreaking finals exit in ’22 has fueled a stronger performance this season. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have led the Celtics to yet another playoff spot with 7 more games to go. Although, it is Tatum who’s been hailed as the face of the Celtics, Jaylen Brown has to be appreciated for his consistency. The team is a balanced mix of versatile scoring, solid defense, impressive bench depth and veteran experience.
Brown has often taken over in Tatum’s absence or when he has had quiet games. Brown headlined the Celtics’ recent 137-93 victory against the San Antonio Spurs. The 2x All-Star put up 41 points and 13 rebounds to which the TD Garden responded with a standing ovation. Brown was asked to express his thoughts on the ovation and the forward’s response was rather unconvincing. Brown responded to the question by saying, “I just come out every day and do my job. That’s all I’m focused on.” This wasn’t received well and went to an extent of Celtics fans hailing Brown to be toxic.
The response from the Celtics fans was perhaps exaggerated as Brown was just being crisp without beating around the bush. Nevertheless, Brown is having a career year with impressive statistics of 27 points on 49.4 percent efficiency, 7 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. Brown has already made it to 3 conference finals and 1 NBA final in his 6-year career. His experience will be crucial in deciding the depth of the Celtics’ run in the upcoming Playoffs.

Jaylen Brown’s future in Boston COULD be subject to his Contract Extension
Brown signed a four-year contract extension with the Celtics in October 2019 worth $115 million. The deal includes a player option for the fourth year, allowing Brown to opt out and become a free agent after the 2023-24 season if he chooses.
Nevertheless, Brown will be eligible for a four-year veteran extension this summer that would be worth at least $165.2. However, Brown could be eligible for a five-year, $290.3 million Supermax Extension if he is named to the All-NBA team this year.
Although Brown has not been someone motivated by individual milestones, an All-NBA spot could potentially define his future. Brown surely has the statistics to back him up with 27 points, 7 rebounds and 1.1 steals but his competition for the spot is fierce. Brown is listed as a guard-forward and his biggest competitors for the All-NBA second or third team include Kawhi Leonard, Demar Derozan, Kevin Durant and Jimmy Butler. Only time will tell as to what lies in store for Brown as well as the Celtics going ahead.
