“Look what happened the last time they got to vote for president,” Charles Barkley takes a not-so-subtle political jab at Donald Trump discussing All-Star Game voting process
NBA analyst and commentator Charles Barkley hilariously roasted Donald Trump while discussing ASG voting process.
Charles Barkley and Donald Trump
NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley argued that the NBA All-Star game voting should no longer be dominated by basketball fans, linking it to presidential elections decided by popular vote. In response to the announcement of the starting five for both the Western and Eastern Conferences, the TNT analyst shared his thoughts on Thursday’s episode of “Inside the NBA.” Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James were selected as the team’s captains for the annual contest on February 19 in Utah.
Speaking his mind is nothing new for Charles Barkley. Barkley took the chance to criticize former President Donald Trump when talking about the players that lost their starting positions as a result of snubs. He said, “We let the fans vote. Look what happened last time they got to vote for President…” Clearly, he isn’t a fan of the fans voting for the All-Star game.
Putting aside the notion of denying voting rights to Americans because they did not support your preferred candidate, Barkley immediately realized his error and apologized to President Joe Biden. He then said, “I don’t mean the OLD guy, I mean the guy before the old guy. Sorry, President Biden…”
The starters for this year’s edition were customarily chosen by a mix of three votes: 50 percent of the votes came from fans, 25 percent came from the media, and the remaining 25 percent came from NBA players.
Charles Barkley on players’ load management
Charles Barkley is of the opinion that NBA players may experience some difficulties during the upcoming CBA discussions. As load management gains popularity and sparks debate, Barkley thinks team owners may want to make a statement.
Star players being rested for load management has been a persistent problem for the NBA throughout the years. Players frequently don’t want to take the chance of suffering a catastrophic injury if they don’t feel close to 100%.
He said,“I think it’s going to be very interesting in the next CBA because billionaires always win against millionaires…It’s embarrassing for the NBA. I cannot wait for these owners to put their foot in their a**es in this next CBA. These dudes gonna do something to these players. They gonna be like wait a minute you can’t make $50 million and not play half the season, okay? Because now you’re really just slapping me in my face and taking my check twice a month.”
Owners will probably have the opportunity to express their opinions on a variety of important matters during the next CBA discussions. Undoubtedly, the idea of load management and how it affects the game will be one of them. For the time being, Barkley may have a point because if team owners want to take a position, the players may find it difficult to negotiate a new contract.
