D'Angelo Russell and Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving and his future as a free agent are still probably the most trending off-the-court stories. Many franchises want the NBA champion and the best ball handler on the board. But not all systems have space for him, and the new CBA isn’t letting free agents roll in with an easy road. Kyrie Irving last season wanted to reunite with LeBron James at the Los Angeles Lakers. But the Nets shipped him to the Dallas Mavericks, and now no one knows what’s going to happen next.

The only way the Los Angeles Lakers can reunite the duo of LeBron James and Kyrie Irving in Hollywood is via a sign-and-trade deal. As the Los Angeles-based team doesn’t have enough cap space to bring Kai in on the contract he is aiming for. But now the air isn’t favoring this reunion. The Dallas Mavericks want Kyrie Irving to re-sign with them, and they aren’t interested in shipping him around.

In a recent report from NBA Insider, Marc Stein reported, “While we await a clear indication about the Lakers’ intentions there, with no verifiable signal to date that pursuing Irving is among their offseason priorities, league sources say that the Mavericks would have no interest in a sign-and-trade with the Lakers that features D’Angelo Russell as the primary Dallas-bound player. All indications are that the Mavericks remain intent on re-signing Irving.”

Honestly, the Dallas Mavericks aren’t wrong here. As if they exchanged Kyrie Irving for D’Angelo Russell, it wouldn’t be sensible. As they have lost their core and future while acquiring the former Nets’ star to pair up with the Slovenian All-Star guard, Luka Doncic.

Also, the Los Angeles Lakers will first have to retain their core to be eligible to land Kyrie Irving in the system this offseason. And breaking a team’s young core after a Western Conference Finals appearance isn’t smart. Also, the front office wants to keep the team alive and make it better, as LeBron James recently hinted at considering retirement.

Kyrie Irving is 31 years old and wants a multi-year max extension contract, and that’s understandable. But the Dallas Mavericks may not exactly give him that deal. He is already trying to force his way out, and his availability has always been a concern. But if somehow they get him to believe in the backcourt of his and Luka Doncic’s, Then that would be a different story. That duo is really a big threat to the league, especially on the offensive end.

Even though they didn’t have a bright start and ended the season on a bad note. They can still develop some chemistry and be better together. However still, nothing can be said about Kyrie Irving’s future. And, recently, on Instagram Live, he revealed that he had already made some decisions and would soon be announcing them. As he knows what’s ahead of him in his career.
