Damian Lillard, time and again shows how much he loves his family. The Portland TrailBlazers marquee is known to share a close bond with his family and relatives. On the 10th of July Damian Lillard posted a picture with his family after having agreed to stay with the Portland Trailblazers, a day prior, with a deal that is worth roughly $225 million. This mentioned deal in extension to his previous contract will not only make him worth half a billion dollars but has also proved his loyalty towards the franchise.
However, success did not come easily. His family was quite supportive. Lillard is very conscious of his family’s role in his achievement and wishes to provide for his family. He recently spoke with Marc J. Spears of Andscape about his sentiments following the contract extension. “I put the time in and the work in and I do stuff the right way with the right intentions,” Lillard said. “And I put my family in a position to where my kids don’t have to have the pressure. Of me trying to force them to be a great basketball player. Or trying to force them to be some great athlete.”

Damian Lillard was drafted on an entry-level contract in 2012. His initial four-year deal with the Trail Blazers was for $3.4 million. Lillard became the first millionaire in his family as a result of the contract. He stated: “I just felt like, ‘I’m about to change my family’s life, my mom’s.’ First thing I did, all right, I’m a millionaire now so I went to my mom’s job and was like, ‘Quit.’ I literally went and helped her pack up her desk, everything.”
“I do what I do so they have the luxury of whatever it is you want to do, be comfortable with it, be happy with it. And I can invest in you to where you not just blindly saying, ‘I don’t know what I want to do.’ You decide what you want to do. And then their kids will have that same luxury just based off of how I carry where I am now. “
He continued “ I can create that type of effect, not just for my kids, but for their kids and their cousins and my brother’s kids. And that’s my ultimate goal, is to create something or to build something where we can keep it all in the family and give them some direction without that pressure that some of us had.”
Lillard’s family may be set for generations because he hails from a close-knit family, he is known to extend assistance to his relatives and loved ones but, rather than handing out handouts, he makes an effort to invest in something people care about. As for his last season, Lillard missed the most of the 2021-22 season, appearing in only 29 regular-season games. He averaged 24 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.3 assists over that time.
Without him, the Portland Trail Blazers struggled. The team’s record was 27-55. Given that he is still the Trail Blazers’ leader, Damian Lillard’s health will be critical for them to make an impact next season. It will be intriguing to see how the Trail Blazers‘ new look gels in their quest for a playoff place.
