“He’s playing football… We can’t touch him or guard him,” D’Angelo Russell criticizes the officials after Zion Williamson’s career night against Timberwolves

Zion Williamson and D'Angelo Russell

Zion Williamson recently got himself a career night against the Minnesota Timberwolves. As he registered a monstrous performance that had the Wolves speechless. Zion Williamson in the game showcased a little bit of everything he can do. He dominated the paint, protected the rim and got himself calls by driving and attacking the rim for his team.

Zion Williamson put on a show at Smoothie King Center with his on-court greats. As against the Wolves, he dropped career-high 43 points, caught 3 boards and dished out 5 dimes. And, that’s not the end as Zion also attempted a career-high 19 free throws in the game. Something which didn’t age well with D’Angelo Russell.

Zion Williamson made only 14 out of those 19 free throw attempts. But the number has sparked up some controversies, especially because of the game style Zion has. Even D’Angelo Russell sounded very unhappy and disappointed after the game when he fired a shot at the Pelicans’ young star.

D’Angelo Russell wasn’t happy with the calls officials gave Zion Williamson. As the Pelicans’ superstar plays with physicality and makes contact on purpose to create space and register a bucket or get a trip to the charity line. So D’Angelo after the game went on to call out both the refs and Zion for the many controversial calls that happened during the Pelicans’ 119-118 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Disappointed D’Angelo Russell after the loss said: “He ran through my guy, took the ball. He’s playing football, we playing basketball. We can’t touch him or guard him. So, good for him.”

Some part of D’Angelo Russell’s take is right but Zion Williamson isn’t playing Football out there. He is just smartly earning calls by being tough and playing physically. The New Orleans Pelicans right now rule the western conference with the record of 22 wins and 12 losses.

D’Angelo Russell in the game against the Pelicans dropped 27 points and so did Anthony Edwards. But their efforts weren’t enough to stop Zion out there. The Wolves are really struggling and have fallen down to the 11th spot in the western conference with the record of 16-19 after losing four straight games.

Karl-Anthony Towns is yet to make a return to the team. Anthony Edwards and D’Angelo Russell are handing out their best possible efforts. But the team is just weak and still has chemistry issues around former DPOY Rudy Gobert. They have to start playing some winning ball or else they won’t even get a spot in the play-in tournament.
